Random Thoughts or Whatever

Random thoughts?

I roll 20 miles across town, go to work, earn a paycheck.

I roll 20 miles the other way, back home. Pay for gas, groceries bills and beer. There is nothing left.

But family and friends. Treasures, gems, the best part of life, so thankful.

This is typically a light hearted thread and I have no intentions to disrupt that. I kind of assumed that it was due to the air temperature. My sister in law says that they are up to something, but she really doesn’t know anything about them either. I don’t know anything about cloud seeding. I will look that up. I was just curious about the patterns. I guess there are just a lot of jets flying everywhere. Thanks for the explanations.

The airplanes use maps if they are up high enough... sort of like highways in the sky that show the routes they take and altitudes they fly at so they don't smash into each other ! The cross-crossing can be insane and gets crazy around airports... map of the Lincoln Nebraska area:

The recent comments about consuming reminded me of a statement I heard years ago, although I don't remember who the speaker attributed the quote to.

People are funny. We spend money we don't have, to buy things we don't need, to impress people we don't like.

A random thought....

Everyone agrees that there is always noise in the signal, right?
Well, what if the noise is the signal?

Well, I may well, and sometimes do, buy things I don't need, but I don't use money I don't have. And people I don't like, can go pound sand, as far as what I buy, is concerned. :D

To modify an old saying: Actions speak a lot louder than possessions.

For example....

When you watch the TV, you assume ads to be the noise and The Love Boat is the signal. But obviously those who own TV broadcasting know that the ads are the only signal of interest and the silly shows are just noise.

It happens in many realms of our experience. We dismiss the noise consciously, but the brain decodes it all in the background.

Ex;
On platforms like social media, humorous or bizarre wrappers (noise) carry pointed messages past defenses. A meme with exaggerated satire might ridicule a political figure, but the underlying critique (signal) lands because the humor disarms criticism. This exploits the brain's preference for novelty, bypassing boredom or ideological walls.

So... it's really the individual, attempting to deal with "boredom"?

Q
That’s a deep question. The same could be asked for a lot of things that we do. Including discussing it on AK. Boggles the mind trying to understand it. I do enjoy conversations like this rather than talking about sports, which is another question. What is its purpose? The same? Unless you are participating.

What happens in a zoo? A creature, let's say a monkey, is taken out of his Natural home and placed in a small, fenced yard. They hang a few tires and ropes to alleviate his boredom.

Human TV watchers are also not in their Natural home, right?

Management Systems are no replacement for Nature.

Personally, DR...I think most of them are trying to escape by... getting into that tube.:bigok:

Q
Sure. Definitely. But they would be escaping into a "pen" created for them - a rope and tire to swing on!

I've had a few jobs that were less interesting than TV.

Pretty much what you described is called discipline. I too have plenty of things I don't need, but we all know plenty of those that the other 2 statements apply to.
