Random Thoughts or Whatever

How can some people look so much different once the COVID-era masks are no longer required? There were several younger hires (like Interns) whose complete faces I never saw, all of 2020 and 2021. Once the masks were no longer mandated, it was amazing that I had a certain vision of what some would look like (I guess, based on their behavior). Some were far from what I had expected.

The nose, mouth, exposed facial expressions, and reactions really contribute to a person's looks and personality.

As does a mask. I'm seeing lots of chatter about folks inventing masks to avoid facial recognition algos.
That makes sense.

As a note, some of what I thought were "pretty" females weren't so pretty after the masks came off. To the point where I only recognized them by their voices..

And some were even prettier.

COVID was such an odd time, in many ways.

Some businesses are still feeling the effects.

Indeed. So are many institutions and medical professionals who tried to help people recover. Most of the medical, ethical, and legal issues remain unresolved, and with no obvious path to get resolved. This stuff just seems to hang in the air in some indefinite state of suspension.

Reminds me of the difference between my mental image and actual look of radio announcers/DJs.

It's really shocking when you have this image fixed in your mind, and it turns out to be 99% wrong.

Voice, looks, and non-verbal clues all play a major part in what makes a person attractive to you, or not.

Of all the predictions and rants about bad effects of pandemic countermeasures, there's one that turned out to be true:
We did a vast experiment with distant learning for kids and proved that it is generally inferior to in-person school.
Yes, the "distance learning" was the same curriculum, but all by yourself. A total waste of time. I am sure kids would have done much better if they were told to spend their time doing the things that most interest them, including play.

Long-distance "learning" = how to use ChatGPT.

I like it when one week there's an article about how bad coffee is for you, and here are some great tea alternatives.

Then, the next week, there was an article about all the great benefits of drinking coffee! And here are some links...

If I didn't know better, it's as if the Tea manufacturer sponsored the first article, and the Coffee manufacturers sponsored the next.

But I know that they know the consumer is too smart for that tactic. ;)

No No No... you don't understand. The same interests own both manufacturers and the whole thing is a promotion. We've seen it before... :)

Having your oxygen cut by 17% probably impacted some peoples appearance also.

Am I right to think that domesticate implies a domesticator for humans?
The "domesticator" was a pretty simple LOGIC resulting from a few simple tests that we now call civilization. The logic is extracting surplus labor. Put many humans together farming (or any other productive activity). That efficiency will create more food, than would happen if each person farmed independently. That excess labor product can then be skimmed off as a tax or protection charge by the non-farmers, non-workers, or simply leeches. This logic is always true, in all cases where people gather.

The LOGIC was passed down, or inherited by continuous success. Kings, Presidents, Governors, CEOs are the ones who learn the LOGIC - they have the exceptional ambition. The rest of humanity are the farmers with much lower ambition, and willingness to pay a small tax to be left alone while they "make a living."

Of course, over time, the "tax" grows wildly out of control as the most ambitious people on the planet squeeze ever harder in every generation over the last 5,000 years.
Here we are.
