Really big speaker ID

WOW! You did well. I have never seen those before, but that's a LOT of speaker for the money. The color of the frame makes no difference at all. It's just paint. These small production manufacturers would make on-the-fly changes to drivers from one cabinet another depending on what they had in the shop when the order came in. EPI, AR, DCM, etc... They all did what they had to to get speakers out the door.

You probably have some very potent and very very rare speakers on your hands.
 
Really its fine??? The cones and the dust cap are the same. Spider is slightly different and It appears to have the same tension as the other spiders. Its an OCD sort of thing where I would like matching drivers.
However abit of reaseach found what became of the marsland linear B speakers. They became Mcbride linear B (the mix match driver says mcbride/marsland)

Considering that those baskets resemble those from two different US manufacturers, but the cones and magnets are the same, I'm guessing that the manufacturer bought blank baskets from an outside vendor rather than investing in the stamping equipment to make their own, or having someone stamp a special design for them. The cone, voice coil, and magnet are what's important, the frame is just cosmetic. It could have been a later replacement, or maybe they were produced during a switchover from old to new, and the factory didn't have four drivers with matching baskets. There's almost no chance that you'll hear a difference.
 
I'm anal like you, but, when mounted in the cabs, they all look the same. I wouldn't worry about it.
 
These speakers look very nice, a little too nice for DIY, but if they are, they were built by someone that took their time.

Someone did take there time building these. The front face is one solid casting of fiber glass with a glue resin of some sort. In some locations almost 2 inches thick or more. The cutouts for and indents for the woofers are a really nice job. If some one built these in his garage for a DIY project they obliviously had training or mad hobbyist skills. My only complaint so far I wish they were lighter. The heavy front fibre glass face / 1 inch thick mdf (particle board??) and plywood lining on sides to support the front plate make these a pain to move. So much of a pain it takes at least 2 guys to move em.

Dont worry ive decided to restore em still. Will share restoration process and give opinions on them. However that means im going to have to start another thread because its going to get off topic.
 
When it comes to wood speaker cabinets, heft is almost always a good thing. You're unlikely to get any resonance out of these cabs.
 
Those Linear-B speakers were available to general public in the 80's. In Montreal, there was an electronics store called Cite Electronique selling them,
along with RSC and Peerless.
I'm not putting too much money on a ''good'' brand, gone or not, that would have designed those enclosures. The tweeter ''array'' probably has a huge null at the sweet spot.
I don't have the Phillips De-Forest AD line of tweeters specs here but i suspect the dispersion is not enough to accomodate such a wide angle diversion.
Are they all 8ohms in series/parrallel?.
Those will make a great garage system or they will be fine for non-critical listening. Great tweeters tho!.

The tweeters are split into 2 series circuits per cabinet. Also the top of end of the speaker the wires are just twisted together and left exposed. Strange.
 
I think this is a DIY set. Amaising work! but the ''no grills'', drivers, and driver arrangement, tells me that. Wayyyyyyyy better then White Van tho!.

Just noticed that the angle between the top and bottom row is greater than that between the left and right column, so yeah, vertically, dispersion may be a problem. Looks like it's about a 45° angle between the two rows.
 
During your refurbishment probably a good idea to put on casters or make a rolling skirt or platform for them.

I think they might have been either a prototype for some Canadian speaker company or a product that had been produced by a Canadian speaker company that went defunct.

I'm guessing you've got a prototype or "top end" model from a small - new and dead - Canadian audio manufacturing company....

The people that would of had the skill with fibre glass. Would of been the yacht/boat builders from the Vancouver area. Lots of fibre glass boats came out of that area. I think pre 80s'. When it was still profitable. It was before my time. Just a thought.
