Hey guys,

Running a P3 with the tonearm wiring mod and oversized counterweight, upgraded Rega power supply and bringing the speed down with a VPI SDS. Any other upgrades like the aftermarket platter or the subplatter replacement that are worth the money?

I don't have any photos, but my backup (formerly office until I was laid off) turntable is a first generation Planar 3 (black on black) with upgraded ceramic bearing and Rega motor upgrade, a Rega/Acos R200 arm (rewired w/ Cardas and an outboard breakout box) and a Denon DL-110 cart. At some point, I'll probably replace the DL-110 with a DL-103 or DL-103R. Currently it's hooked up in the basement via a NAD 1130 preamp to my 'home office' system.

I've been very pleased with my Rega Fono Mini MM phono preamp. I use it with a tubed 1962 Voice of Music 1448 amp, and it sounds very detailed and full. I also like the fact that it's made in the UK and not in some third world sweatshop.

The VM amp powers a pair of Rega R1 bookshelf speakers, which are well-suited to a low powered tube amp like mine. The R1s are very detailed and accurate from the top down to the upper bass region, and then there's a steep bass roll-off. Instead of 'faking' deep bass, these little speakers wisely just don't even try! To fill in the bottom I'm using a 200 watt powered subwoofer. Once I got everything dialed in together, I am VERY pleased with the results.

The Groovetracer Reference Subplatter was an immediate improvement. Much more focused vocals and tighter bass. I have no regrets buying mine.

One of the original Planar 2s with some mods. Replaced the original feet with Audio Tecnica shock absorbing feet. Replaced the original RB200 arm with an RB300 with Origin Live counterweight. Running an Audio Technica Signet TK5e cartridge.

Interesting idea. How is it working for you? Also looks like you are running the white belt.

The jury is still out on the rubber dots, but I think they’re an overall positive. They’re a little tacky, so the record sticks. I think that is translating into a little stronger drive in the sound. It seems to clean up the mid/bass ever so slightly.

It never ceases to amaze me how every little thing changes the sound of a record.

It does seem that you can't really make any changes without a noticeable effect.

P25 with either a AT440mla or a Shure Type Vxmr. Excellent low end out of both cartridges and a bit more upper midrange/treble out of the AT and deeper soundstage from the Shure. Only complaint is that I wish it had changeable headshells so I could change carts easier/faster.

Would love to see if some folk have full Rega setups of the TTs with the various Rega speakers and CD players too. AKer Marantzfan and I were eyeballing the Rega Saturn and Apollo on his recent visit to Boston. Shop had some ELA tower speakers at one point that I sadly never got to enjoy listening to, but was eager to.

I have one on a Technics 1200, and yes, that's exactly how Audiomods packages their arms. Before the dollar went into the toilet vis-a-vis the British pound, one of the best deals in high-end tonearms, IMO.

Here is my brand new RB700 on my new turntable....It current has a Rega cart, but that is a loaner that will be leaving once the Benz carts start shipping again...
