Scroes You Passed on Because Quarantine?

Today, I put together a list of things I want to do. The theory is that I put in house, wife, and my wants into the list, there is a good chance we will get a good number of them completed. As well, there is the personal satisfaction of crossing something off lists that feels really good. Regardless, I got my first item crossed off my list (Ikea kitchen cabinetry coming apart), and two others started today. Actually, I started one on March 20th and the other today. Both audio related. I've been going through my record collection with a view of reducing the collection. I've already pulled out about 400 records and continue to do so. It is a matter of deciding what I can let go, and what I'm definitely keeping. The easy part of that is done. Now I am at the stage where I went through 6 records from one artist, and put 4 of those in the for sale pile. It isn't always easy, but it is helping a lot. Plus, and this was item two that I started today, I am cataloging all of the records I go through into discogs. I should have started to do this a long time ago, but was too busy. With all this spare time, I have lots of time to do this. And I'm listening to records non stop. :beerchug:

Once I finish that, I have a speaker crossover I have to rebuild, clean and set up a Garrard Zero 100, and try to fix at least one of the three cassette decks sitting in my project drawer.
I wish I had spare time. That sounds great.

I found a couple of online "scroes" (new cartridge, and a used turntable) but will pass on both just due to being unsure of the economy right now. I'm not shopping for anything until this passes. I have a feeling with so many out of work (despite unemployment benefits) and people cutting back to essentials, there might be even better bargains later in the year. :)

I have an opportunity to get a Pioneer SA9100 for $100 tomorrow. Last month I would have jumped on it. Now, I’m not sure if I want to mess with it.
Ask the seller to put it in the garage, shed, etc so you can keep distance. Pay on the spot if possible. Show the Benny and put it in an envelope on the same surface the amp was on.
Just my .02

I appreciate the advice. I was going to pass on it and it turned out the guy sold it out from under me anyway! This virus thing is really helping to solidify that a lot of people suck.

For sure. Seems that some these days are either being total assclowns (*cough* hoarders) or the polar opposite--super nice and helpful. I'm texting a Shipt shopper at our nearby Meijer who is going aisle by aisle with me as she pulls our large order. All she had to do was pull what's there, but this is great! I'm going to find a way to leave her a tip when I pick the order up. :) This "corn teen" isn't going to keep ol' Wildcat from eating! :D

Did the seller specifically say he was going to hold it for you till the next day?

I never agree to hold anything unless I know the person.

Happed just a couple days ago. Had a lengthy text exchange with your typical clist boob who said she would come in the morning for something. Next day and nothing. I never even bother to reach out when folks are Mia. It's just sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo common. I never even bat an eyelash. I always price my stuff to sell and 80+% of the time does.

I know your taking this virus seriously as am I. And take the required precautions. As fate would have it, the person who bought the item the other flaked on, told me how her son just tested positive. She was in proper ppe gear as was I. I felt really bad for her as she told me she had cancer and a lighter fell out of her car when she got out. Just like folks drinking during this from stress I'm glad I kicked sticks nearly 20 years ago. And this is in a city with less than 30 documented infections. Which is complete bs. My brothers wife works in radiology and sees fluid filled lungs all the time now. The numbers just aren't accurate.

I kinda think the seller knew he was giving someone a deal on the 9100 and just wanted it done with asap. And I really cant blame em in this climate.

As someone who sells allot himself I'd think you get that possible mentality too?

These simply are not even close to being normal buying selling times especially in the used market. I'm not expecting normal practices as a result.

I have a few stereo items I'll sell some day but no rush due to the emergency, and the up side of it is that my wife isn't pressing me to purge my stuff.

I don't hold anything until I hear that the buyer is going out their door, and even then it's iffy. I don't try to contact any no shows either, it just goes to someone else.

We made a deal and it was supposed to happen today. He made the time and place! I would have been super pissed a month ago. NOw, f it. I think the vintage audio market is going to take a huge hit very soon, so I need to focus on getting rid of what I have anyway.

I completely agree on vintage audio taking a MASSIVE hit in interest and value. The high dollar rare / prized stuff, altec mac we classic jbl so on will still hold ok or dip for a while. But much of the current 50-600$ stuff and the like I suspect will see quite the drop. Let's face it, that scene was already in the downward direction.

I'm gonna unload much of what I feel isnt that amazing for cheap and toss allot too. I've no desire to meet up during this to give stuff away. And this has been a much needed wake up call for me on allot of levels.

On a positive note I'm going to put a fair amount of $ I've stash away into the market. That will offset whatever marginal loss I will take.

Also gonna hang onto some gems till this sorts out.

Also if the guy was selling that 9100 and you really did want it, cant wait a day. I learned that one over 10 years ago. Plenty of other folks would happily offer more for an edge. Plenty of meat on the bone. And when ones intention is just to flip it, kinda hard to be mad at the seller for being motivated by $.

Who knows what or why it played out the way it did. As you point out and I agree. No reason to be mad in this climate. And lord knows I too have plenty to be focusing on unloading in one way or another.

Good luck man

I feel bad since I promised to sell my dead speaker project to someone for minimal cash locally, and with us being on sort of a lockdown here also (both my better half and I are high risk), I really don't want to chance catching anything, nor do I want to pass along something to him either. We've hardly been out of the house and we wipe down everything incoming, yet...you never know with a virus.

Better to be safe.
If you want to test your faith in humanity, you could place it outside and tell him where it is and ask him to leave money in an envelope somewhere safe, for you to retrieve in 24 hours.

It's not just the money, but also having a lot to haul upstairs and outside. Plus, I'm working a lot of long days (12+ hours) on top of keeping the household running and don't have the hours needed right now to dig everything out and get it properly cleaned and sanitized. (I have repair parts scattered around at the moment. It was a project I had to give up on.) Just too much going on right now.

Keep in mind that hard surfaces will hold the virus for 3 days. I wait 4 days after I receive something before I open it up these days. Everything moves a little slower, but it does move.

I've been picking up non-perishable boxes from the porch (with gloves) and letting them sit in the garage for a week or so. I found a good deal on some KEF LS50s but like the phono cartridge deal, I passed up on it for now. Great scroes, but they're nothing I really need right now.
