Show us the first record you ever owned.

David Bowie: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

i bought it at Woolworths department store...summer of 72. I was 13.

"to be played at maximum volume"

My sisters had LOTS of Beatles but my first record was "Dirty Water" by the Standells on 45. Love that dirty water -and frustrated women.

I got this record through the book club in kindergarten (remember those?) back in 1988 I think. I remember the teacher putting it aside for me so it wouldn't get damaged and I brought it home on the bus and everything. I don't know that it was specifically mine but it was ordered through my book club and I remember having my parents play it for me.

My brother has possession of it now but that's okay. I know he takes care of it.

The first I ever bought on my own was American Woman by The Guess Who on 45 - I was 10 years old. Will never forget playing it over & over................

First Album!

Terry Snyder All-Stars: "Persuasive Percussion" (1959), me in 8th grade.

Parents sold it in garage sale 25 years later, while I was out of the country (USAF).

Grand Funk

My Uncle worked for Capitol records at the time...he gave this one to me.

My first 78s were "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition", and Harry James doing an incredible custom arrangement of "Flight of the Bumblebee". Not much into 45s, but I remember buying four: "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Polka Dot Bikini" (Brian Hyland IIRC), Volare, in English/Italian; "Hurcules" - anybody remember that one?; Battle of Kooka Monga

First LP that I actually bought was "Hatari!" music by Henry Mancini. No. 2 was "Toscanini Plays Light Classics". I've never looked back.

That Harry James, I'd LOVE to hear! I've got a couple of his LP's with different versions of Flight of the Bumblebee on it, and get goosebumps listening to them.

I was with my brother when he bought our family's first rock album, Blind Faith. I can't actually recall which album was my first purchase, but I'm thinking it was Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick. I played that album so many times on my parent's Magnavox console (while playing along on the drums) that I'm surprised it didn't wear right through the vinyl. :-)

First record purchase? A 45..."Martian Hop" by the Ran-Dells.
First LP? "Meet The Beatles", of course:)

The first record I can remember around 1959 or so was a 78rpm, Teddy Bear's Picnic (1932) sung by Val Rosing with Henry Hall and His Orchestra. I still enjoy this song I love the Bari-Sax section.

Henry Hall & his Orchestra is one of my favorite "Big Bands" they have a good selection of Henry Halls stuff for MP3 download at Amazon. Unless you can get his records there is no reason to get a CD for recordings from the 1930's the quality of an MP3 vastly out strips the recording quality available in the 1930's so unless you can find an Academy Optical Mono soundtrack for a "Soundie" from the time you are not going to get any better.
