the case top is acting as a large heat sink, i doubt the caps are getting much of it. and they are below them. heh

A 'neat' thread. Thanks to all posters. I like it because it shows that neatness usually results from good understanding and planning. As Gordon says, it also makes later servicing easier. Maybe because it almost makes the actual build as clear as a schematic?

Nah, both channels run off one 20A, 120V outlet. I had to run 8 gauge from the service box to keep the voltage up, however...

This is a little unusual as it is a Dynaco SCA 35 chassis and iron with a power supply choke, negative voltage supply, and totally different front end topology. As such, the circuit board is abandoned and new circuit built on a Front Panel Express plate that holds the 6 tubes and four coupling caps. The goal here is to keep all the circuitry away from the bottom panel that is only about .5" (12.7mm) from the tube socket tags. I made every attempt at neatness, but as a prototype, there are various improvisations and extra holes. Very little wire is used for the circuitry as the tag boards are mounted to the plate and the component leads connect to the tube sockets and other components. This has Cardas binding posts and Amphenol input jacks as well as negative bias pots for the output tubes. None of the added components required more than a little filing to fit within the existing slots on the back of the SCA 35.

This was my follow up to my 300B. A super RH-84. This build was way to tight to work in, I could not beleive the stuff I crammed in there, but it looked nice and was dead silent.

Does this amp qualify? It's a guitar amp I built for a friend, all the transformers and the filter choke were wound in my lab by me. I cannot hear any hum out of it even with volume control turned to 10

This is a ~60 year old Stancor Triode 807 Amp I bought on the auction site a while ago. The power supply is just as neat, but has far fewer parts.

OTOH- here's a Heathkit AA141A that I rebuilt. It wasn't terrible before, but it was confused enough in layout/wiring that it was hard to follow- which made problem-solving and diagnosis difficult. It's much easier to work with now...

I am in the process in rebuilding a Heath AA141A Preamp. I came across on AudioKarma your rebuild you did awhile back. Really nice and neat. Would you have any close up images of the unit you can e-mail me.? Also, would you recommend any mods you feel necessary [ex. power supply beef up filter section etc,etc. ] Any info well appreciated.
