The way you see it is the what I did to it nearly 2 decades ago. Sat at the exwife’s house in the back yard all that time. I thought it was long ago disposed of. Got a text to come get it or she was getting rid of it, so I showed up while she was at work and loaded it on the trailer. Plan is to punch the engine out to right around 750 cc (limits of the design) and do a full custom frame like a Martin frame from the 70/80’s. It’s a roller right now and waiting in the shed for its turn on the frame table:

I owned two Ventures of the same year on two different occasions. Now I'm riding their great grandson, XV1900 Stratoliner.
 
Fresh tires to start, new tires and oil change in Medford, Oregon.
Seems that a set of tires should've lasted the duration of that trip- unless there was plenty of opportunities to thrash it a bit.
I've always wondered what it is about bike tires that causes such abysmal mileage compared to cars, trucks, etc. The original tires on my '05 Triumph Speedmaster went 12k+ on front, 15k+ on back. I thought that was exceptional, but them things were stiff as a board. Ran a multitude of good used tires since, as I had ample stock on hand or cheaply available. Curious to see what the new Avons will do now.

Modern BMW tourers (and BMW cars, too) value traction over longevity. On a bike you've only got two tiny contact patches so it makes sense to make the best of what you've got. This means—at least in my experience—that my front tires on my "oil-head" BMWs with their fancy front suspensions wear nearly twice as fast as the rears, which is the opposite of my experience on my older "air-head" models where the norm was 10k-miles per rear and nearly 20k on the fronts.

And that's why I asked!

I get 500 miles a set using Bridgestone RS10s. That's 5 track days.

I thought so, too. But we picked up a nail on the road in the rear tire, a sticky string plug repair done in the hotel parking lot worked great for two days. Then after it went flat again, we were off the road until we could get an internal patch applied. I decided that the prudent thing to do 3000 miles from home was a new set of skins. 2 up riding with all of the luggage we could carry and the desire to get home without further drama were the factors in that decision. Oil change was not a bad idea at that point anyway. Plus those Colorado roads were upcoming, with rain and snow as possible factors. I'll pay for as much traction as I can get.

Some years ago I talked to a man with a Yamaha 135 PS V-Max and obviously money to burn.
He told me he once wore out a new rear tire in app 10 burnouts.
That would have been more or less $ 1.00 per meter...
In my view that is senseless madness. I don't approve of it.

The largely worthless hydra-glide drum brake is OK for about 5 seconds at full lever grab, then fade away to next to nothing. Just my experience with the one I have on my panhead-frame rigid shovel, retired it in '05 upon buying my new Triumph. Nothing like electric start, rear adjustable suspension, hellish 3-disc brakes, no leaks, turn signals, enclosed geared primary drive, speedo & a tach that works.
