Not my experience with my '05 Triumph Speedmaster, bought new, still have. In 48+k miles, other than tires, chain/sprocket sets & 1 battery (going on 10 years for battery 2), the only unplanned problems have been an ignition module & the trigger pickup coil under the alternator cover. Admittedly it could use a clutch but it's still very usable.
No leaks, no Lucas electrical fiasoes, no wicked vibrations, no noticeable oil consumption & I've heard " damn, that's a good-lookin' ride, what year?" more times than I can ever keep track of. I've never even had the carbs off & apart except for rejetting about 11 years ago.

That's about as reliable as a Suzuki (i.e. very reliable but still not at Honda levels). I was saying they're far better than what most people think European bikes are like.

I had a Bultaco 370. Very fast but preferred my brothers Montessa 350. My Husky 360 was more durable than the Bultaco though.

That's about as reliable as a Suzuki (i.e. very reliable but still not at Honda levels). I was saying they're far better than what most people think European bikes are like.

While very nostalgic about vintage bikes and those that honor them, I'm not enthusiastic about dealing with wire spokes wheels and chain drive again.

And overall very well finished from what I saw. Too bad Harley drove them out of business with a lawsuit over the use of "Auto-Glide" as some sort of trademark infringement. Why didn't they sue GM/Chevy for "Powerglide"?

Yeah I have a serious case of the ass with what Harley did to Eric Buell. Pretty much bought and sold his soul. EB's liaison to HD was a local racer Devin Battley. He was the first dealer to sell Buell HD's. I had known Devin previously through the engine shop I worked at.
I still love the American V-Twin but would have a tough time buying anything that profits the SOB's that crushed Eric's livelihood.

Dont think I've ever seen one. Everything looks good-but that big, dumb shield-looking thing on right side. I have a h-d rear master cylinder that never made it onto my rigid panhead-frame shovelhead that looks identical to whats on that ridley.

After my first bike having a chain and my second and third having spokes, I swore off both "features".

After my fourth, I also swore off drum brakes in the rear.

...and finally I've sworn off carbs.
