Wild but effective place for an oil cooler. Could be a track hazard when/if wrecked though.

Back in the day oil coolers were mounted where they were most effective. Notice the lack of a belly pan. Rules have changed since 83'.

@MAXZ28 What mods were done to the Honda? Appears somewhat “cafe”, which I like. Miss my 750F Super Sport.

No mods - all stock. It’s a 2017 model purchased new off the showroom floor in 2019.

Both are beautiful bikes. My local Honda dealer also offered a new, carry-over CB1100EX at a low price earlier this year (gone now).

I almost pulled the trigger because I think that bike is the coolest looking retro bike out there. But in the end I like the lightness of my CB500F.

How do you like the Honda?

Love it! Five seasons in and almost 22,000 miles.

I had this bike for 6 days from new before I was run down. That was the last day I rode as it was my second walk away and was not going to try for a 3rd

Is that an 800 Intruder?

That was my first bike and nearly perfect.

Super easy to ride, easy to clutch and shift, easy to stop, easy to "throw around".

Mine got 45 MPG no matter how I rode it.

The only thing that makes it not perfect (well, other than the PITA to keep clean spokes, and the PITA to service rear drum brakes), is that it needed a slightly numerically higher final drive gear as it was pretty buzzy at 70 MPH.
It would have still had plenty of power at that speed with a higher 5th gear.

This was my fourth and final motorcycle. Sold it recently, after almost getting hit by idiots three times in one day. That took the fun out of it.
