Out looking at small bikes. Went to a Honda dealer to look at an ABS Grom. After looking it over it wasn't going to work and they couldn't sell it anyway as there's a stop sale order on them for emissions. They're letting fumes escape from the fuel cap that met spec for an off road bike but not a street bike. Sitting there was a new 2024 Trail 125 ABS with 20 miles on the clock. It was a $4200 bike marked down to $3500. As soon as I asked about it he said he sell it for $3600 out the door. Said he wanted the 2 year old bike gone. Was a little taken aback. It would have been over $5000 out the door a couple of years ago. Took it for a ride and it's going to fill the use I wanted it for. Had missed out on 2 deeply discounted bikes in the previous week. Kinda seems things conspired to lead me to this dealer. 3 years ago you couldn't find one this series of 125 Hondas. I've read motorcycles dealers are having a hard time selling bikes, may be something to that.

Saw where you mentioned your age in another post. Am envious you are still riding a sport bike on the track.

i havent ridden any of the new triumphs, do they beatup the twisties like the old ones?

no, they annihilate the twisties. They're much, much better in that regard. They also don't leak oil and have electronics that actually work.
never had the oil leaks on mine and i run an ARD magnito with a timplanium chip,got ride of the rectifier and diode in 1981.it helps if you know how to work on them
Fit and finish is outstanding as is the handling. It's an easy bike to ride for hours. One of the better bikes I've owned. 2024 T100

the new models don't need to be worked on; that's the beauty of them, you have more time to ride, instead of wrenching. I've had my share of vintage machines, they're lovely to look at, but no match for what's made today.
Had a 1974 Triumph Trident. It was a unicorn. Was reliable and never leaked a drop of oil. For a short time they were the fastest motorcycle in the world till the Kawasaki Z1 came along.

the new turnkey bikes are nice, but i can still fix my old stuff along the road if needed be.i quit working on scoots for people when it started requiring special software and a computer, ive seen too many new bikes broke down along road and people trying to get them to a shop and harley and bmw and a few others are now famous for just that. both my harleys run a carb, and ive been thousands of miles on them and never needed a ride to the shop.i also dont need 100+ horsepower to get where im going, yep im old and prefer stuff i can still work on
Where I grew up it was almost all Harleys and they were far from trouble free and needed constant fussing. Buddies let me ride theirs and each time I wondered what they saw in them. Found them heavy and clumsy vibraters compared to their foreign counterparts. I was looking at Triumphs and Moto Guzzi's in the 70's. As far as modern bikes it's the same as with vintage cars they are far more reliable. I rarely see bikes on the side of the road and when I do it's still Harleys for the most part. Bought a Bluetooth OBD and the software to use with 2024 Triumph for $100. It's easy and intuitive to use. You can still do most of the work on modern bikes yourself if you want. You just need to keep up with the times.
