Sony 2251 and/or 2250 owners thread

@sberger - you’re right. Looking at a few of the similar Sony arms from that period and even shown in their manual illustrations, that’s a designed-in droop and pitch to to the right (looking from front). Probably just fine.

Thanks.

Looks like I'm going to take a chance with it. I haven't had a chance to replace the SME tonearm on my other one that I took off to put on my Thorens TD-124 so hopefully all will be fine with this one. I agree that the price is good if working properly. My other one had little to no maintenance for years and works perfectly, so I'm crossing my fingers that this will also.

It looks like a droop to me. Is that the one in Temecula, by chance?
Looks decent - probably a good buy but that arm looks funky.. Arm cuing lift pad is facing wrong way too, I think.
Looks like the arm may need a new insert. Which may have to be DIY'ed?

I have a spare 2250 with has this arm --- I have never used that table. It sits in storage, whenever I need a board or motor.

Another arm. BTW --- I love that magnesium alloy headshell. It's fixed holes though.

What are you referring to as the "insert"?

Whatever that part of the arm is inserted into. Black plastic sleeve at pivot point. But maybe, no work needs to be done. Seems that the counterweight is on a slight bend from the pivot point.

That's what I was asking about above. It's been indicated elsewhere that because the the counterweight is offset horizontally, it's supposed to have the droop shown. When looking at other pictures online of the arm, that seems to be the case.

Seems you are okay!

Maybe, it's like that to have complete range of motion, when the cover is down?

Maybe. All I know is what I've seen online. Just going to bite the bullet and keep my fingers crossed. I've provided detailed instructions on packing, and at least it's not being shipped cross country, so hopefully this will all end well.

So silly really, given the 7 working tables I already own, plus the 2251.

But you guys understand that.

Good luck with the shipment!

Congratulations - looks like you got it. I’d been watching that one, thinking of driving to Temucla for pick up. I think that should be a nice one! :)

Take a look at the Sony PUA-237 / PUA-286 tonearm manuals on Vinylengine. Here, even the brochure shows that “droop”..

Recorded this last night, off the old and beat-up Sony. Original well-worn great LP. Nice match! ;)

Hey guys, the title of this thread has in it “2251/2250” - just like that, all shoved together. Think we could get a moderator to add a couple spaces around the slash, so we get both numbers, instead of that one?
I mean so that reads “2251 / 2250” or “2251 and 2250”.
That way (if search gets fixed), people will see an actual # that they search for.
Can a moderator fix that?

Try PST'ing whomever is currently online. I've seen edits to titles before.
