Sound Dynamics Owners...Unite!!

I just picked up a pair of 1000 SMT's in a trade for a pair of little Mission 760i's. They had just had the woofers re-foamed and they sound great. They are a slightly more acceptable size in the living room than the big 12s' I picked up last year.

I've been looking for a pair of those for a very long time.
I use to have 12s a d regret selling them

Had to let them go.

Well, a move into an apartment sometime next year forced me to find a new home for my loved 15S speakers.

A fellow fairly close by picked them up and was driving down south to re-sell them to a fellow in Toronto. I hope he appreciates them as much as I did.

In the meantime I put together a nice little headphone only listening setup with my DVD player and desktop computer, and it is working out fabulously.

Gotz to have those tunes!:music:

I was wondering if anyone has the specs or any info on the 1000SMT's? I can find lot's of info on the 1200SMT's but not the 1000's.

Hi, I just bought my first pair of Sound Dynamic speakers, the 10S MKII bookshelfs. These have a 6 1/2" woofer with a Vifa 1" Dome tweeter. This same Vifa tweeter was also used on Paradigm 5SE, 7SE & Control Monitor models.

These sound very much like Paradigm's of similar vintage. The bass is punchy and detailed, impressive for 6.5 incher. The clarity of the tweeter is beyond reproach.

I paid only $10 for the pair off Craiglist which look brand new and sound like it too! The elderly original owner said he never hooked them up since new. These do sound like brand new speakers right out of the showroom. I'm liking these a lot!

Outstanding!! Thank you.

A friend bought some 12S with bad surrounds and i was looking for
correct replacements. I can't remember where i got them but the guy
said that Cerwin Vegas surrounds were the same, except for the pink
instead of yellow color. Those are two layer foams, both on CV's and Sound Dynamics.
Sound Dynamics were said to have been created by the Canadian CV distributer to compete against CV :smoke:
I took apart the tweeters and spun the aluminum horns in a lathe, and with
sandpaper, gave them back there like new look  :D

Loving my SD-15s, got them.....freeeee, covered in spider webs and dust with rotted surrounds from a kind lady's garage....she just wanted them out.

Put new surrounds on them and cleaned em up a bit.

They're fun!

Have a chance at a pair of SD Concert Monitor 500’s for thirty but hesitant as I haven’t found much info on these.
All I know is that one has woofer foam disintegration. If I take a chance at these, are there foams available?
Thanks!

Yes, I've re-foamed a few sets of the Concert 500s. I ordered my foams from SpeakerWorks. SWK10F was the code I believe. Double check the measurements before you order.

I once owned a pair of Sound Dynamics 300ti and a pair of Sound Dynamics RDS 3. BOTH sounded great for the money spent; and I mean like....HUGE bargain. Several years before these, I owned a pair of DB Plus DB100 speakers. These were also an API product and these were the entry level line for API. This was in the late 1980's and for the price paid, they were amazing. I can't help but think that if Sound Dynamics was restarted they would sell and make money. I have heard few products that offered so much for so little.

Thanks MT! The pics you posted - these are CM 500's ? I haven't seen them yet so I had no idea.

Yes, those are the CM 500's. Sometimes you see them with the silver tweeters.

I also had a pair of CM 700's at one point in time, pictured here. They had a terrible re-foam job so I parted with them.

So, would the consensus be that CM 500's are capable substitutes for ADC303AX, KLH-23s, Advent 9's - all used speaker opportunities under consideration at this time - and all for more cash than the CM 500's?
Thanks in advance for the opinions!

Forget the SDs... I could have dealt with the needed re-foam of the one, but the other had a replacement "Radio Shack Subwoofer!" installed in place of the original woofer. Too bad, woulda given them a shot if they were original parts.

I have a line on a one-owner KLH-23 that is calling out to me...

So I'm going to rake over the coals and bring this thread back to life.

I had a pair of 12S for a while. They were in very nice condition compared to most examples I've seen (big, heavy, x-party speakers = banged-up!):

I just found those tweeters too fatiguing.

We all know the story that George Baker of Audio Products International (API) was the Canadian distributor for EPI and Cerwin-Vega speakers and the Sound Dynamics brand was created as a clone of the CVs when he lost the rights to distribute them?

Now a question. Don't have a picture (or the speakers) handy but I have a small set of bookshelf SD speakers Model 100S. I don't recall a "Mk II" on them but could very well have it ... and they sure aren't 10-inch woofers. The description sounds just like Iinvader's description above of "10S MkII" (typo?). So 6.5-inch woofer and Vifa tweeter. Regardless, I'm pretty sure what I have is 100S MkII. Anyone have specs on these?

I have a pair of Sound Dynamics RTS-3, which seems to get rave reviews, and I'm not sure how, they sound so shrill to me.

I just acquired a pair of Sound Dynamics 10S speakers, and the original yellow/orange colored surrounds are in need of being replaced.
The outer cone of the 10" woofer has a flat lip that attaches to the surround.
A read where a lot of people use Cerwin Vega surrounds, but I cannot seem to be able to find the orange colored CV surrounds with a flat inner attachment.
I am only finding angled attach foams. I am finding flat attach 10" foams, but only in the standard gray color.

Anyone know of a source of 10" orange colored surrounds that will work with the original Sound Dynamics 10S woofers with a flat inner attachment?
