I think I will go back and try to log the manhours this project eats up, just for curiosity. Although, it won't be a reliable reference since I am by no means a pro at this. There are many here at AK who could finish this up in no time. I would go straight to the Poorhouse trying to make a living at this....

Quick question - where can I order the lovely bad blue boys to replace in my SX-1250? Mine don't need replacement but my tech back in Chicago told me they were getting hard to find and I want to have replacements while I can get them.

7 hours yesterday and this is as far as I got...very tedious. Even with a reference receiver and schematics it is time consuming work. It woul d be very interesting to be able to go back and see the assembly line where these and so many other fine Pioneer units were churned out.

I'm using soldered Western Union splice s to extend wires. On one transformer wire I used a soldered butt splice because I needed the extra 1" length..

I'm going to be cleaning up all the ground connections, especially on the filter bonding straps but I have to get a more powerful soldering iron. Anyone have suggestions for that? My Rat Shack iron just can't cut it.

As a Commercial Electrician for over 40 years, I can really appreciate how massively overbuilt SX1250s are. Everything about them exudes quality craftsmanship. They really were built to last a lifetime. Even my cherished Spec 2s, which are capable of nearly twice the power and sound divine, do not match the level of construction quality of an SX1250. My daily driver, a partially rebuilt 1250, bench tests @ +/- 187 wpc, I've seen posts where completely rebuilt units test as much as 212 wpc.
