Folks, I have a early pair of Spendor SP1 speakers. I can't get any audible sound out of them above 13k.
And yes I can hear to 15k in left ear and 17k in right ear
So I am suspect that the coles super tweeters are blown. How difficult to replace or check and see if they are in fact blown.
Jeff
Thanks SP58, I will give that a go, I actually have replacements on hand, picked them up last year ...just in case.Hi, the Coles often break by mechanical overload. You made the check with Your ears thats o.k. the Coles are available at falconacoustics.co.uk
They can be pulled from the frontside but for disconnecting you can trie to reach the networkboard thru the hole of the Bassdriver. It is recommended to mark the Bassdriver and turn him nearly 180 degree when back installing.
Good luck

They are a lovely speaker. If my room were bigger I would have went for them. As it is my Classic 3/1’s never disappoint.Apparently the Classic 2/3’s need approx 50 hours run in time.
I’m up to about 20 hours now.
I’m very pleased with how they sound, here’s another little demo clip

A friend just dropped off a pair of SP3's and asked me to replace the surround. I didn't know they were rubber. Can these be repaired? DO they sell kits for them? How do you clean off the old surround rubber that is attached to the cone? These are different from any surrounds I have done in the past. View attachment 2419421 View attachment 2419422
Thank you. Will do.Contact Falcon UK and see what they recommend.
Hi. Sorry for asking about such an old thread. I need to do exactly the same thing as I am missing a phase plug too. How did you remove the grey phase plug still present without damaging the voice coil? What are the dimensions of the phase plug you made. All help appreciated.View attachment 929611 I was able to make the piece that was missing, which turns out to be a phase plug. Apparently it helps reduce certain frequencies from crossing paths from what I can understand. A lot of speakers use several different types of these.
I made 2 new ones since making one to match the gray plastic one that was there would be very difficult.
Besides I think mine look cooler, and they are held in place by the magnets using screws in the wooden dowel I used to make them. A little stain and voila! works perfectly and these sound amazing! Oh and I did get the tweeters from Solen, exact match Scan Speak D 2008..View attachment 929593 View attachment 929594
Dead thread, just wanted to say I just picked up some SP1 speakers in mint condition at a moving sale… they were cheap so I did some quick research and picked them up. So blown away that my Boston acoustics a200 set are going bye bye and I’m looking at my AR90s like they’re obtuse. I’m a bbc British believer convert!
Yes they came with original stands! They have no right sounding this good, if the bc1 had lacking bass then they certainly fixed that. I listen to a lot of indie rock with acoustic instrumentation and these sound incredibly realisticDid the stands come with?
Those are really expensive on their own
What are these?Sadly, I had to sell mine. The cost of living caught up with me. Can't keep everything!
Still have a pair of B & W DM3 left, that quite honestly, I preferred anyway.
