Depends. When a member is soliciting help or information to fix or research a piece of gear (errant or otherwise), I think every effort should be made to keep the thread on topic, at least until the problem's solved. Games can wander a little, as long as they can easily return to the structure of the game. And off-topic/opinion threads should be free to go where they might. JMO, obviously.
