Today's Reggae Play List

Awwww...that's a huge blow.
He will be missed.
I hope he didn't suffer in the end, he suffered enough in his mind throughout his life.
He really was his own worst enemy AND his biggest proponent, but he backed up the crazy with ground breaking technique and style that will never be duplicated.
He must have been so infuriating to work with but people saw the genius in him. They could see the reward.
Now he has gone to HIS reward.
RIP Scratch!

I am a soul collector.
I am a collector of souls.
I'm collecting souls...

and I'm a soldier and I'm collecting souls in the army of Far I"--Rainford Hugh Perry

In todays Reggae world, it's Still a big deal if you can get close to replicating that Black Ark sound. Think about that - It's 45 years later and people across the globe are continuing to struggle to recreate your signature sound. Also he made some real freaking classics after he burned down the Ark:

Time Boom X De Devil Dead
From The Secret Laboratory
Panic In Babylon
Rise Again
The Observer In The Star House
Rainford

Don't RIP - Keep Upsetting Them!

Here are my top 5 reggae releases for 2021.

1. Sebastian Sturm - Echoes From the Jackie Wilson and Jackie Opal school of vocals comes this amazing album. Currently only a digital release but hopefully a physical release will be upcoming.

2. Lee 'Scratch' Perry - Roast Fish, Collie Weed and Corn Bread Decades of dreadful reissues fall by the wayside as VP finally remasters and issues Scratch's 1977 album with the respect it's due. If you grab a copy, make sure it has a hype sticker that states "Exclusive RSD Red Vinyl - Remastered w/ Liner Notes ".

3. Shanti Yalah - Friends of The One Roberto Sanchez production out of Spain. A must for Alpha Blondy and Burning Spear fans. Totally original but reminiscent of those two artists.

4. Keith Hudson - Flesh of My Skin, Blood of my Blood Like #2, this has been available for years, but this VP reissue finally restores the original track order and mix of the original Jamaican press. This is his masterpiece and it's exactly how Keith wanted people to hear it.

5. Dub Judah - Make A Joyful Noise Judah's first LP in many years. Heavy, hypnotic UK digi-roots.
