Vintage Mopar Owners: Let' see your rides!!

Here's our Mopars:

1938 Plymouth Coupe

This one is rough but it does run. Has the 201 cubic inch "L-head" six.

1961 Dodge Pioneer

This is in need of mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Has a 361ci V8.

1962 Dodge Custom 880

A remarkably clean "survivor" with just 42,000 original miles. It has the rare
optional 413 cubic inch V8 engine w/ a single 4bbl (Carter) carb. Wish it
came with the 2 4bbl cross-ram option, but it's still a pretty ballsy package
for an early 1960s "family" sedan. The guy that originally ordered this must
have loved torque. (there are no outward indications that it was ever
assigned to boat or trailer towing duty)

1963 Chrysler 300

My uncle's car bought new in 1963, mine since 2005. All original convertible
with the 413 cube, single 4bbl carb.

1964 Dodge Polara

Another one from my uncle's collection, now mine. This is an original
lightweight coupe, it has an original 426 ci "max wedge" V8 and cross-ram
with two 4bbl carbs.

Drive it much?

Mopars Rule!!

Hey CARMINE, What is the trick on posting large pictures like yours? I am new here at AK need some advice? I fiqured out how to do multiple posts but the pictures are all the same size -small.
Thanks:scratch2:

gota use an offsite picture hoasting place like photobucket. Then just paste the code in your post and it comes up its real size.

absolutely bitchin rides you've got

About as close as I come to mopar is an AMC

I don't drive any of them much, too many mommies in killer SUVs and angry young men in steroidally enhanced pickups to risk the vintage sheetmetal, especially on the Polara. The big 'ol Custom 880 gives away nothing in weight - at 4,300 lbs it's right there with anything but the big (real) Hummers & the rare Excursion (where'd they all go?), but it's still not worth the risk. Then there's all the little vandals here & there. If I lived, say, in Palm Springs or some place like that I'd take all of them out a lot more, daily even. Just can't be done around here. Vintage cars & 100 watt amplifiers, all dressed up & nowhere to go (or play). Whatcha gonna do?

Grump - Ain't you heard, AMC is the new MOPAR! Heck, Car Craft has at least 3 AMC-related projects going on right now or recently ended:

- Rambler street rod build
- Javelin resto
- 390ci build
- 401 build

You can't touch an original AMX car for less than $5,000 (maybe more?!) in any kind of condition, and they're headed in the same direction as all of the other muscle car big boys at the Barrett-Jackson & other specialty auctions. Geez, it's become near impossible to find a 401 block from a Jeep or other such vehicle in a boneyard, they're all bought up. 390s are going fast, and it'll be the 360s next. The breadth & depth of aftermarket speed products for AMC, and the AMX in particular, have exploded in the last 3-4 years.

And coolest of all: the 301ci Gremlin, my favorite street-legal wheelstander.

Some very nice rides!!!!!!!!

at heart I am a Poncho guy  (70' Formula 400 Firebird - Turbo 400 trans, 3:32 rear gear - also 71' Grand Prix - 400 cid, turbo 400, unknown rear gear? this thing would scare woman and children coming down the road ) - no longer have both :tears: I loved the early GTO's - a nice 67' convertable, manual, still waiting for this  (gonna be waiting a long time)

BUT, I have always loved the Mopars because they always stood out and left me with a look like :scratch2: - bad ass rides, give me an aar' cuda please

today my driveway is filled with V-6's and I-4's, just not the same  , sucks

Not my car but my Father's car back around 1960. I was 12. A Plymouth Sport Fury, brown just like this one.
I remember that car fondly. I thought it was THE coolest car going and so did my Father.
I remember him being so proud and probably feeling so "cool" himself. He would always tell me that this was not just a Fury but the Sport Fury, a special car!

It was a really great looking car IMO and I never liked the '58 fury where the fins had a hump in them and ruined the lines of the car but fins on the '59 were sleek and really made the car.
Loved that car.

Mannn... my high school car was a '68 Coronet R/T, sold that and bought a 70 Charger, eventually sold that. Finally went on a quest for my dream car - a 69 Charger, but after looking for months I gave up and bought a 69 GTX. Not two weeks later at a car show some guy had a complete 69 Charger R/T for sale - 440, 4-spd, dana 60, PDB and even factory A/C - and I didn't have the funds since I bought the GTX.

You're a guy that has owned/still own three awesome cars that most of us would kill for... I hope you aren't looking for too much sympathy, lol. :D

I'm kinda young, but I got hooked on mopar muscle as well. Here was my first car, purchased in 1996, sold in 2001. It looks good from far, but was far from good. 383/hurst 4spd with lots and lots of bolt ons and bored out a bit. It was fun...but ultimately never going to be a nice car, so I sold it.

Man That black vert looks sweet!

Yes, my valiant is a signet 200. i would very much like to make it an SL6 sleeper. The driver door needs to be replaced. It got tweaked beyond repar from some asshole who smashed it running a light. Pulled the dents outa it, but it still don't line up right. Thank god the frame wasn't bent.

I would absolutely LOVE to own a 64 wagon like that. They are so damn scarce here, and the only one I've found so far was a stripped one in the boneyard.

so what is your slant strapped with? I was thinking an offy intake, dutra duals, around 270 cam. With my 833np and 3.21 rear it should scoot and still get halfway decent mileage.
Or perhaps a hyper pak, dutra's and a 276 cam :scratch2:

Did you leave your rear end stock, or did you swap it out for later barracuda 8-1/4 or 8-3/4? auto or stick?
I see you have the addco swaybar on your 66 as well. i was thinking of putting a rear in mine, ans I have the front already.. Do you have one, and f so, how much of a PITA was it to install?

Jordan:
Bummer about the asshole smashed into you, lucky we have solid frames like a truck. :thmbsp:

As advertised & purchased in 1999:
"Dick Ott* engine rebuild with ported head, hardened valve seats, performance dual valve springs, positive seal valve seals, balanced, windage tray [keeps engine oil from contacting the crankshaft], Stage 1 MOPAR performance camshaft [still don't know what that is], MOPAR performance aluminum 2 bbl intake, 2 bbl carb from a Super Six, 9.0 to 1 pistons, 11" disc brake front end & torsion bars & rear diff & 10" brakes from '72 340 Duster, front sway bar, rally wheels, new windshield, new matching original urethane paint, re-chromed rear bumper, new 904 trans, killer stereo, bucket seats, always garaged, 2nd owner +++."
*Dick Ott, famous for slant six performance mods.

I think it still has stock gears - 2.73 I think. It'll snap to 120 mph respectably.

The offy and Clifford 4 bbl intakes are amazing for flat-out open throttle performance, but I question streetability/economy. The Dutra's suck cuz too close to the aluminum steering gearbox. I got some ceramic coated Clifford duals.

Got a Clifford aluminum valve cover also, says "6 = 8" on it; Offenhauser makes em too, not so nice imo. Looks good and quiets the solid lifter system. Here's a picture on their website looks like mine (take off the the Holley double-pumper. :yikes: )

Here's mine:

Dual exhaust, from Clifford:

No rear sway, but I've always liked the anti-twist rubber bumper bolted onto the rear diff. Can't do much more without tearing a hole in the trunk. I sure don't want to do that with mine! :nono:

I am disabled, haven't put >500 miles on it!

Good to hear you've had good luck with the super six conversion. I used that on my 65 dart, and I really wasn't impressed. Even after the new throttle shaft bushings and complete rebuild, the carb just seems to have dead spots in the Rpm range where it just wasn't doing anything.

I'm also curious as to how the car runs when its cold since you don't have a heat source to warm the underside of the intake. That's why I was considering the dutra conversion, but I was concerned about placement and proximity to steering and starter.

I was considering a clifford water heated manifold. I would add a temp sensor and solenoid valve that would bypass the manifold after it had reached operating temperature. On top of that would go a holley 390 4Bbl with vacuum secondaries. I hear that when properly tuned with a good street cam, they provide good street economy with the small primaries, and have a smooth transition to power when you stomp the throttle.

Did you get the 11" disc setup from the duster as well, or was that from another car? I would really like to add discs to the valiant. Drum braes are just hairy at high speeds. I've heard that disc brake setup with spindles are almost a drop in replacement.

What are you using for mufflers on your 66? I have the flowmaster 60, which is fairly good and doesn't have a lot of cabin resonance. I wouldn't mind a little quieter on the inside.

I do like the headers Idea, I was just wondering how cramped it would be in there after all the pipes

DUnno I'f I'm trying to make a dragster six, but it would be fun to see. Especially after seeing guys in slant six bracket racing pull high 12s with their modified 225! :yikes:

What I really want to do is just have a street machine sleeper. Just do it up like granny car. Cream white roof, and fire red. Leave the cragar's on there, and keep the exhaust quiet..until I open the throttle. It's going to handle really well too. I have always had concerns with rear sway bars tearing the frame apart. I think I will fab mount brackets and box them to the frame to make a stronger more stable place for the SB to mount at.

I also need to upgrade the ball and trunion unit on the driveshaft to a good strong Ujoint and have it balanced. I just know that POS would snap if I put any real power through it.

I'm aiming for around 200hp without the need for juice or boost. However, I need another car to drive first, as this is my daily.
