Yeah....The "SEL" models just had approx 4" more inches of legroom in thr rear compartment, but were otherwise virtually identical. My Dad had a '72 280SEL 4.5, it had the "Big" 1967-72 body, which was lighter than the 1973-81 "S" class, & it had the 4.5 L V-8, it was the LAST one set up virtually identical to the German home market version, & it would FLY. The mechanic at the local Mercedes dealership said we also just lucked into a very powerful example, too. It ran best between 90-110, & wasn't QUITE done at 140...He traded it on a '74 240D Diesel, because of the fuel scare, the little Diesel's top speed was about where the mighty V-8 shifted into high...
