What's with amps on the floor?

There's lots of amps "on the floor" or close to on the floor because there's lots of pictures of amps on the floor or close to on the floor on the internet. So, everyone looks at the internet and sees the amps on the floor or close to on the floor and figures that where that sort of amp goes. Then there's lots of reasoning about the ,002 degrees cooler air in the climate controlled house. or the .47 meter shorter power cable because obvs the 500 watt amp can't push that power the extra 1.234 feet through the 00 gauge French braided cable. It basically boils down to someone posted a picture of an amp on the floor and it spiraled out from there.

My niece and nephew sat on my credenza (which was once owned by a nice Jewish family because when we bought it it was full of yamakas) at thanksgiving and they're normal too fat for their drinking age adult bodies. The credenza also houses about 200 lbs of china and flatware. So figure that the whole thing with the lamp and all and my Dunaco monoblocks was carrying about 700 lbs on four 1,4 inch square legs. Normal couches carry well over 1,000 lbs. Wood is pretty strong stuff.

Cheapo target wire rack shelving will carry 350 lbs and for modestly more good stuff will double that. It's pretty easy to spill a beer on a "floor amp" or trip over it carrying a laundry basket. Thats why we don't keep guns or ovens just lying on the floor, or bags of flour.

I guess besides all the "Obvious" answers garnered here, my main focus or should I say concern, and not that I've ever experienced it, but I've heard many a homeowner talk of flooded basements.

Growing up we lived in 3 houses with basements. I have also owned 3 houses with basements. They all where as dry as any other floor of the house :dunno:

Is your system in a basement room?

Did you ever live or know anyone who lived in Minnesota and had their pipes freeze in the winter?
Yeah, that.

Is your system in a basement room?
No. But MY common sense says to keep stuff off the floor.
Stubbed toes, hiding rattle snakes and Hualapai tigers.

Yeah, that.

5 of those 6 houses where in Ohio, still :dunno:

Hell I had pipes freeze in Va Beach?

That’s kind of like saying hey I live in Tornado alley so should I keep my high end stereo in the basement.

I'm not here to argue.
You all can store your gear on the floor, I don't care.
I was just curious.

Not an arguement. But but a pipe freezing in a basement that is obviously climate controlled because your fancy listening room is down there is highly unlikely. It would be like having a lighting strike or a fire. That’s what insurance is for.

You never heard of a winter caused week long power outage?
Things happen.
Especially if you go to Florida for the winter to hang with Shamu or something.
I'm just saying, I wouldn't do it.

And that’s cool. All I am saying is that’s like not putting it in an above ground floor because there maybe a tornado. I don’t worry about what if’s.
:beerchug:

Edit: and yes I have lived thru week long winter power outages growing up. Mostly a few hours though
