What's with amps on the floor?

There's one thing that's obvious to me, folks who have their equipment arranged on the floor do not have an interest or concern for interior design.
As soon as I seen the start of your lecture on interior design and photo, I was laughing.

I purchased CWD cabinets back in the early 1980's. They're a little dated
Because all I could think of was this...
They may well have an interest in a very different aesthetic standard.
In deed.
There's also a practical difficulty of hoisting 75 - 150lbs worth of amplifiers onto a narrow shelf
But not 80s BPC.

If you never owned something like that, well you just don't know how heavy they can be to move.
This is why we have some saying what they are.

Plus two

I live alone but none of my stuff is covered in dust.

I had 2 kids that actually played outside and 500lbs of dog ( 2 Great Danes and 2 Chessies), all my amps and receivers where always on the bottom shelf about 3” off the floor. They where also in the family room. Kept my hair and dust under control.

I’ve never put amps on the floor because I worry about vacuum cleaner abuse. You see it a lot in speakers where all the sharp corners close to the floor are rounded off. :) Nice amp stands will take care of that though.

Weight, and the coolest air is at floor level.

Yes Sir.
In my case, with (4) Mac MC 275 VI`s each on a sealed cutting board siting on the carpeted floor, I`m sure enjoy the cooler air and very low transferred low frequency vibrations by the 2 12" Woofers on either side of them..

And really, no other choice of physical placement in my living room, and a pleasing kind of cool green glow along the floor between the Mac tweeter/mid range line array columns that they power in my Mac XRT-30`s in tri-amp mode.

And I can keep an eye on them when in use, either playing music, or when watching a BRDVD..
Over eight years in use, and they have not had one single problem w/all original factory tubes, so they must be happy ..

I'd like to see a rack (ehmm ... audio rack, that is) to put these puppies on:

I would say each amp section weighs more than the model.

Shipping Weight
Output Module (1 included): 148 lbs (67.1 kg);
Power Module (2 included): 152 lbs (68.9 kg) ea

Weight
Output Module (1 included): 123 lbs (55.8 kg);
Power Module (2 included): 127 lbs (57.6 kg) ea

Some things were just meant for the floor:

Or perhaps a rack for this beauty of a beast:

Kinda hard to find a shelving unit for these, unless you go custom-made and have a relatively large room, ..... they're pretty deep.

Just a' sayin' .....

I've done it with vintage mono tube amps, mostly because they're heavy, throw out tons of heat, and I wanted to avoid having anything flammable near or above them, in case one decided to go into full melt down mode. Plus it gives unrestricted ventilation.

I figure if I set them up them like heaters which can put out the same amount of heat as is available on a 15A branch circuit, that they won't be able to burn my house down under any worst case failure mode. I suppose a metal table would accomplish the same thing, but who has a metal table anyway?

It basically boils down to someone posted a picture of an amp on the floor and it spiraled out from there.
Well that may be in fact true, but I never knew about it, nor recall noticing it, and would have had zero influence(never has, and never will on audio) on my siting of my 4 Mac 275 VI`s on the floor over 8 years ago, so their happy, and problem free, so I`m happy too..
And there is considerably a higher temperature differential between my 75` thermostat sited on the living room`s wall 5 ft. high set HVAC and an elevated amplifier placement versus them on the floor.
The floor is cooler, whether summer or winter, as measured by me, with various temperature measuring devices, both analog & digital over years, and during the summer, observe most any dogs preferred area that they lay, during summer.

Man, what a nerd! (Yeah, I've done that too)
