Which Sony vintage PreAmp?

Maybe in Germany but not here in the US. The last several decent ones on eBay here went for more than twice that.junkaudio said:
That is one of the down sides to the vintage Sony gear. The word is definitely out on the TA-2000/F preamp. Difficult to find and quite spendy. Wasn't the case a year ago.

West Germany. And Mirko knows his **** (and Sony, for that matter. ). So if he says it is nice and in good working condition, then it is. Maybe he'll post a pic or two over the in 'Show Us Your Sony's' thread so we can all see this rare beast. You'll need to insure it is a dual-voltage model or will need to use a step-up transformer (~$50).

Tracked a TA-2000 on Ebay...it went for $353.00 USD (not even cleaned and reconditioned)... not to me though. I never realized it was this hard to find these Sony preamps..wowsie!

Believe this speaks to their level of quality. Generally speaking, the TA-2000F (the later model) goes for somewhat less than the original TA-2000.

Why should the original version go for more than the F (FET) version ?
As I can remember SONY used these FETs and other upgrades for improving the sound ...
$352 is simply too much
You get easily a mint TA-E86B for that money ...

Mirko - Are you bidding on the TA-E900 currently on eBay?
I don't know for sure but my guess is that the original 2000 is a rarer than the 2000F and some people prefer the smooth knobs of the earlier units. I do think the smooth knobs look better, but the knurled knobs are actually easier to use and the 2000F has a better feature set as far as inputs are concerned. I do have a 2000 myself but only because one happened to turn up at a good price on the local Craigslist, not because I went looking for it specifically.Unda Maris said:

edit - That 2000F just closed at $440, which is I think a new record and definitely getting into E86B territory.
Well.....the new record is $440 for that TA-2000F that just sold. One guy (noobie) bid 30 times in a row going up by $2, then $5 then $10 before giving up. The other took over from there and went up by $5 and then $10 and so on for a total of 15 bids. Very tiresome. And neither of them won the auction. Stupid putzes (is that plural of putz?).
But, your thinking about rarity is most likely correct. However, think I would prefer the FET model. It is great that the vintage Sony gear is finally getting its due in the U.S.

Others are jumping on the bandwagon. Another TA-2000F is now up with a BIN of $450. Record after record.
