Which Sony vintage PreAmp?

Well.....the new record is $440 for that TA-2000F that just sold. One guy (noobie) bid 30 times in a row going up by $2, then $5 then $10 before giving up. The other took over from there and went up by $5 and then $10 and so on for a total of 15 bids. Very tiresome. And neither of them won the auction. Stupid putzes (is that plural of putz?).

But, your thinking about rarity is most likely correct. However, think I would prefer the FET model. It is great that the vintage Sony gear is finally getting its due in the U.S.

That second bidder is the budding Sony afficionado that took the last 6200F for $306 and an ST-5000F for about $350 a while back.

Can't say that I dislike the trend though. I always rationalized to my wife these were appreciating assets :thmbsp:

Yes, I will have to tell my wife of these latest sale prices and remind her of the near mint $5 (yes, FIVE dollars!) TA-2000F I bought at a vintage hi-fi store that was having a parking lot sale to get rid of 'excess inventory' about 1 1/2 years ago. Think she will change her opinion of how smart I am....

But $920 for a unit in such a bad cosmetic condition is really more than enough ...

The $600+ for the EQ is crazy ...

Based on my private statistics, I think I will have another realistic chance in one or two years ...

600$ for the SEP is NOTHING !
Try to locate a unit just to give it a listen - you've never heard a parametric eq as transparent and non-destructive as this one: you can actually use it to correct room/speaker peaks without actually adding more problems.

As for books... do you wonder why I switched to literature hunting instead of stacking maintenance-hungry boxes ?

When my snipe bid of $713 went in the preamp was well gone. Am also astounded at the $610 for the parametric equalizer. Who is the bidder yeO? He is in Germany, so you guys may actually run across this preamp at some point in time. Oh, well. Have to be happy with the TA-E86B that Terry DeWick just checked out for me. It measures at the limits of his instrumentation, so he did a quick clean and set and gave it a clean bill-of-health. Should be just the ticket to push the TAN-8550, which is scheduled to arrive on Monday (if the shipping-gods see a proper alignment of the stars - my fingers are crossed). Am really looking forward to listening to the phono stage on the TA-E86B. The hunt continues.

i sold my 2 ta-n902 for 700 euro each sony is underrated
the ta-e900 would be about 700 euro here
but sonics and money are not the same
damn i wish i keep the ta-n 902

Last TA-E900 I saw on Ebay before this one, was september 3rd 2006, it went for 770 Brittish pounds, which translates to about 1500 USD... It was mint though, and I mean really mint. The two fitting TA-n900 monoblocks went also for more than 1900 USD.

So this one was cheap

We are talking about a heavily scratched unit which obviously was used in a dusty environment ! Can you see the air slits on the sidepanels of the TA-E900 ? These don´t exist e.g. on a TA-E88B ! So the dust can easily enter the open (!!!) switches ...
After repairing and replacing all the defective and scratched parts, you easily invested additional $900 ...

Regearding the EQ:

The best parametric EQ for room correction is the human brain !
Nature gave us the capability to distinguish reflective signals from direct sound quite well. If you don´t have a very boomy room it really makes no sense and if you have one, you are lost anyway ...
Did you ever hear the digital Room Correction System from TacT Audio ? :thumbsdn:

On the other hand side, if you want to eliminate a resonance on your speakers, that´s a different story ...

Parametric EQs are very usefull as a professional tool with miking i.e. a drum set or vocals (in Mono !!!), but using it on a master in Stereo (Hifi always handles already mixed signals) it can be rather dangerous and unproductive.

I know why to collect such gear, but where is the real sense for using it in a Hifi setup ?
