Who's listening to FM Tonight? What tuner?

Enjoying this cute little Sony, which just arrived from The Great White North today, via a Barter Town deal.

As I already have "the little Sony tuner", I'll have to call this "the little vintage Sony tuner".

So how's it sound?

i have one of those st-80-f's. you can listen to it, that's about it. best for background listening. pretty similar to the mint mac mr74 i used to own, and better than the refurb'd/aligned mac mr77. but don't get all excited, imo that is not saying much.

today, i have been listening to the jazz/blues/r&b/zydeco programming of 89.3 wpfw - awesome programming, and great s/q. tonite, i will be listening to "thistle & shamrock" and "american routes", on 88.1 wypr.

tuna of choice the past few weeks has been the refurb'd stromberg-carlson sr443. this tuna is not wery sensitive, and was unlistenable in my present location, w/a dipole mounted at the ceiling of my 2nd floor carriage house. but, since i stuck an fm6 yagi up in the attic crawl space, even the mediocre sensitivity of something like the sr443 brings in wpfw, which used to give most of my best tunas a bit of a problem occasionally - about once a week i would have to switch to the ubiquitous sony xdr-f1hd w/all but my rotel rht-10. the rotel, after refurb and mods, was my only tuna that could consistently get a noise-free signal w/wpfw, except the li'l sony. but now, w/the yagi in the attic, i haven't used it even once. its sonics are simply not comparable to better analog tunas.

anyway, the sr443, w/a quality mpx decoder, (in this case - studio-12), has a sound as good as any tuna i have ever heard. which was my opinion of the am/fm sr445 iteration i used in an in-town location where reception was not a problem.

Radio Swiss Jazz on my iPhone via the Tivoli radio app.

Is it really a tuner? No, but I am amazed how much I enjoy sitting on the front porch listening to this. Brings back fond memories of my OLD days listening to Ol' Jim Lowe's " Cat's Caravan" jazz programming on WRR- AM 1310 through my six transistor pocket radio in the early 1960s.

92.1 KHPQ on a Poineer TX-130 that i found at the landfill yesterday, along with a almost free Kenwood KA-7002 with custom volume knob, and some homemade bookshelf speakers.

Listening to Bob Parlocha jazz program on Kuaz, public radio in Tucson, Az. through a Sansui G8000 with Klipsch Heresy and smaller Advents. Nice relaxation before bed.

All classical all day from WRTI, 90.1 public radio out of TempleU in Philadelphia whilst the turkey cooks. Yamaha T-85 fully recapped and aligned by our own dr*audio doing a sterling job of pulling the music out of the air from ~60 miles.

I was listening to my McIntosh MR78, after I put the antenna back up yesterday.

Still sounds great and pulls in those weak stations.

Nothing like actually tuning in a station with a dial that's attached to a capacitor. :D

Had it tuned to '93.9 The River' all afternoon. Adult Album Alt station from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Still on at the present time. Usually my 'go to' commercial station on the FM band. Listening via the internal tuner on my Onkyo AVR. The rest of the equipment including tuners is in a bit of a flux (read uninstalled) due to the addition of a new PC purchased just before the holiday that is being integrated into my setup.

101.1 WJRR on my Realistic STA-850 receiver with a Parsec AM/FM antenna. Not exactly the Rolls Royce of receivers, but it sounds nice n clear :).

Sent from my toilet using Tapatalk.

101.5 KGB, got tired of the Xmas music mixed in with cont. jazz on 98.1. Have to live with that until the end of the month.

Playing my TR 2080 receiver thru pair of ADS L1290/2... sounds pretty good despite the marginal broadcast audio quality.

90.1 WRTI out of Temple Univ. Their Sunday morning show is a mix of 'spiritual/gospel' music. Programmer picks what he plays based on the musical content, which results in some excellent sounds. Listening to my 'new to me' Accupahse T-106 tuner. Thus far am favorably impressed with what I'm hearing. Soundstage is quite 'different' from the T-85 it replaced.
