I have toyed with picking up an older tuner at some point but there is so much to learn before doing so. It will happen eventually. Along the way I will find something else I will want I know it. :yes:
Right now I am in that mood again to try something new, but I do not know what. Almost bought a T-85 but its was too expensive. Almost bought a TX-9100...on that fence too. So many tuners are lateral moves. Any ideas?
I'm running the little Sony, a TU-717, a T-80 and an ST-J75. There is a DBX T-1 on the shelf in the other room. Probably could use some TLC works fine but caps are lurking I think.
I would enjoy something beautiful as the Stromberg you have there. But I am looking at everything.

budget some cash for one of bob f's modern mpx decoders, if you're wanting to sample a wintage mono tube tuna. and a lot of them sound superb, besides the usual suspects. try an eico hft-90. or a paco st45. or anything by pilot. (tho the pilots can be spendy, some times you see one at a ridiculous price.) all these are killer sounding tuna, imo...

& analog readout? the reality is that a really good tuna, modded and refurbed, won't be much different from another really good tuna, imo. at a certain level, you are starting to split hairs. your tu-717, for example. if you were to have it properly refurbed and aligned, then modded to the hilt w/all the tricks - like what's delineated on the tic site - it will sound
so good. you might find something better, but it won't be by a lot. and it will likely be better in some small area, not likely across-the-board better.
however, i have never heard an accuphase t1100. from those who have heard it, especially when run thru a good dac (blasphemy?), it might actually be a definite cut above. it's hard for me to imagine, tho - the sound i get from my top tunas awreddy, is similar from what i get from my none-too-shabby redbook and winyl set-ups. people have on occasion walked into the house when the fm was playing, and asked what record or cd i was listening to; when i told them "i dunno - it's the radio", they couldn't believe it...
