Why are they building Preamps without Bass & Treble controls?

I use Electro voice Regency 15 in woofers EV T-350 tweeters and EV 1823 mid ranges and using the EV X8 and X-36 crossovers.
I have some large ElectroVoice Empire speakers. With the sp15b woofers and horns. You wouldn't think bass boost with that speaker would be of any use but it definitely can be. I find the speaker to be very dynamic and entertaining. Now that we know what your speaker is I'm not so surprised.

I don't mess with them much. Just leave them flat. The exception being some home recorded tapes made by others. Usually lots of twisting. Then never play the tape again.
Another season I may get an add on active tone control is I run into more new recordings that have been EQ'd for ear buds I'm guessing. Having over emphasized bass. When I first played Jeff Beck's Loud Hailer on my tube system I wished I could tone it down some.

It's not the music that needs help, it's the room and how you got used to listening to music.
I am not complaining about the way it sounds. It sounds fantastic. I am very sure that the room could be drastically improved but I have what I have. The post is about why a lot of builders are not using tone controls anymore?

No, he's saying that he's running the bass at full boost, and the treble at flat, (if flat is the 12 oclock position)
That is a lot of bass boost, but what matters, as always is how it sounds to you.

I cheat, and If I decide I really want more bass, I just manually adjust my stereo subs gain up a bit. Most of the time, however, they stay at around 7, (with 6 being zero)

Well 1/2 way open isn't flat to me, either it's boost or cut, there's no closed to be 1/2 way open from lol.

This one rarely changes his tone control settings from flat. But the alternative of doing without is far worse when they are needed.

In my view, nothing strikes me more "unaudiophile-like" than to not intervene when prudent to due so. Even more ironic is that is often the same type of individual who thinks nothing of spending countless time, money and energy devoted to "tweaks" in pursuit of that elusive 0.001% of improvement yet thinks it's better to passively endure a recording where something is obviously off than to avail himself of one of the most time-honored, basic tools of high fidelity for a real improvement.

May not be the perfect solution in every situation but it's certainly a heck of a lot better than doing nothing.

One man's opinion.

Bing ****ing GO.

It has nothing to do with cheaper and all to do with SQ and S/N ratio.

Well a few members mentioned that already on page one. However you keep saying that EQ and Tone controls are a needed necessity because of bad recordings. I say that's nonsense because we all get the same music relatively speaking. Your perceived need comes from how you got used to listening to the music, your system and speaker interaction with the room.

You are stuck with what you get unless you use a equalizer. The designer decides what he thinks sounds best and that’s it. I like the option to make changes. What do you guys think?

Pretty guttsy topic for a new member. I like it! Having run professional sound boards in the past I guess since tone controls are no longer important to the listener, they must no longer be important to the musician either. Sound engineers, pack your bags.

I guess all I'll need to do soon is just get a soundbar and a subwoofer and run blue tooth from my Iphone and I'll be good to go.
