I recently picked up a super clean CR-800 and of course all of the lamps were out. I got some LEDs on ebay and started swapping them out. When I turned the power on, the dial indicator lamp worked, but all 3 of the meter lamps did not. I can't get any power reading at the meter lamp lugs...
I have three questions for all, regarding my CR-800.
First, every time I power up the unit with Tuner selected and tuned to a good Stereo Station, I get a plop after around 1 minute, a second one after 2 minutes and a third and last one after 2:30 minutes.
No plops with the tuning needle off...
I tested main amp with dummy 4.4ohm load with 1kHz signal and after positive signal clipping few seconds then fuses (F801-804) burned. Then I removed all main amp transistors TR717-720 (4pcs) and measured them, all was ok.
Then I tested main amp board without main transistors and output voltages...
i have a cr-800 with no power. i checked the switch on the back and worked it several times. no change. read a bunch of threads here and immediately went to check FR807 fusistor... and it had blown itself off the board.
when it did.. it took the metal 'rings' underneath the board with it...
Hoping someone might have some sage thoughts on a CR-800 I've been struggling with. This unit had no sound when I got it, but I have since worked through to almost bring it back to life (with much appreciated guidance from avionic last year).
I have replaced fusibles and recapped the PB, main...
My 800 sounds weak from the right speaker. I've swapped the speakers, and ruled that out. The volume is about half of the left side. Sometimes it comes up higher if I flip the High-Low Filter switch a few times.
I'm wondering if there are some things I can look at before I give in and go see the...
Posting here also for visibility:
I recently acquired the unit with unknown functionality. After doing some testing I was able to fire it up, but it had no sound from any input.
I have a relay click on power on, lights work, and was actually able to go through and set bias and offset. I...

So I just purchased an almost mint Yamaha CR-800 after reading the raving reviews for this series, Only damage is slight edge chips on the chassis. This is an upgrade from my Old Realistic Sta-84. I am excited to say the least, but I have some questions. I noticed it has a Preamp out, this is...
Hello friends of the good old Yamaha receivers,
I’m writing you from Germany and hope for some help and ideas for my 2 CR-600 und one CR-800. Since me kids love these beautiful machines as well, they will stay in the family for the next 50 years at last!!
Basically I got three problems. Let’s...
I have a 1970s Yamaha CR-800 receiver. I was swapping out speaker wires to connect a 6-channel A/B speaker selector to the stereo and I left the receiver power on while I was doing it. The speakers were working while I was doing the work, then they went silent. I assume I shorted something out...
I originally posted in the DIY forum, but it was suggested to move it here for possibly more response. I wasn't sure how to move a post so I copy/pasted into this new one. I hope that's ok...

Hello Everyone. I'm Jay from Seattle and I'm new to vintage audio, but I've falling quickly down the rabbit hole. I received a turn table recently as a gift which kickstarted my interest in vintage audio equipment. I am particularly fond of mid to late 70s Yamaha gear.
I'm currently...
In my quest to cure a noisy RIAA stage, I did discover a fractured joint at D401 on the so-called EQ Sheet. (PITA to get to, mind!) Now, in this case, somebody before me had fitted a 330R, 5W resistor in the supply line - non-original and not shown on the schematic. Off-load the supply does...
