Reaching out to the Eico-verse!
I purchased a nice HF-89 that was shipped to me. Unfortunately the packing job was pathetic and the box looked like it was delivered by the American Tourister gorilla. As you may suspect, the chassis and transformer brackets were at odds and neither came through...
Recently acquired a HF-85 that has been worked on previously. It sounds really good but is a train wreck cosmetically. I’ll probably break it down, remove the rust and try restoring the original finish on the cabinet.
I’m evaluating what has been done and what I won’t to do while it is apart...
Hey all,
Recently bought two HF 20's I would like to give the same treatment as my 2050. Completely strip and rewire with all new and high end parts. My plan is to once again replace most caps with Orange Drop Film (other than Elec caps) and all resistors with 1% metal film. I've went through...
Hey all,
I have an Eico 2050 which I’ve gutted and installed the nicest parts with tightest tolerances I could find. This thing sounds lovely.
However, I’d like to change the hi pass filter switch on the front to be a loudness switch for lower listening volumes. Any tips or tricks? I could...
I had a go at building an HF-87 clone from scratch. Wound the output transformers from 3/4 stacks of microwave iron and 3d-printed nylon bobbins. Power transformer was wound from an old HIPOT transformer with another 3d-printed nylon bobbin. DIY walnut cabinet.
Was going to post this in Eico forum but though all tube enthusiasts may enjoy it!
Ever wanted to build your own Eico 2050 clone?
I bought one on marketplace today and it came with a full manual. This coupled with the maintenance manual you can “easily” replicate this amp. I’ve seen nowhere...
Hi all! New member here.
A couple of years ago my dad gave me an eico 147a Signal Tracer as a gift. I do some electronics for audio as a hobby and its a wonder working with it. I absolutely love it.
I moved houses recently and had to re-set my work bench. When I plugged the 147a to my bench...
I just received a free set of Eico 10a3 speakers. I cannot find much info on them. These are not much to write home about, but sound interesting with the right room placement and they look pretty cool imho.
One of the badges is missing and the other is peeling paint. Does anyone know of a...
Hi everyone,
I picked up an EICO 2036 recently (my first tube amp), and I've had a hard time sourcing material. Best I've found was a schematic (which idk how to read too well), and a catalog from 1964. Anyone have access to a service manual? I would like some literature on the unit before...
Greetings.
As noted in many places the EICO power supplies were mostly built to a just adequate specification.
I am currently rebuilding an HF-89 and want to upgrade the power supply. Looking at various threads here at AK and other places has given me some ideas and they are presented in the...
I am hoping to restore an AF-4 and I am looking for information or a parts source for the speaker plugs and the power switch.
Pictures of the plug are attached.
Thanks!
I've recently acquired an almost mint Eico HF 85 preamp and hf 86 amp. I need help. I am taking it in to be overhauled. I wondering if any of you could tell me what to look out for when I take it in and receive it from service. Both currently work. The caps have a waxy goo on them which I...
So a little while ago I bought a pair of Eico HF-14 monoblocks in nicely restored condition. They use el84s and put out about 14w each. Obviously they're not the last word in fidelity but boy do I love listening to music with these. I believe I've caught the tube amp bug.
I'm looking to get a...
I have yet to find any EL 84 stereo that sounds as good as my rebuilt Eico HF 81, I've read such good things about the St 35 using Dave's boards and wonder if anyone has heard both the modded st 35 and hf 81 and can compare them. The Eico is so musical sounding and sounds way more robust and...
I have been looking for a tube preamplifer for a while but there is rarely anything below $500 in my area. And when there is one, I don't have the cash on hand and miss the opportunities lol (like the Audio Illusions 2A for $450)
Anyways, I am ready to shoot above $500 now and I am going to...
I'm still new-ish to working on gear and learn more with each piece that I work on. As such, I've picked up pieces of classic-era test gear with the intent of gaining knowledge through restoration. I paid $20 at an estate for a box full of an Eico 377 Audio Gen, a model 232 VTVM, and a model...
Have done some searches on Audiokarma.Org for any mentions of the EICO Cortina integrated stereo amp models 3070 (15w x 2 at 8-ohms, continuous; originally $ 89.95 kit or $ 129.95 wired) and 3150 (40w x 2 at 8-ohms, continuous; originally $ 149.95 kit or $ 225.00 wired). Can find no mentions of...
Hey everyone, hope everyone is staying cool this July. Just ordered an Eico Hf-81 and was wondering is anyones noticed that there seems to be two versions of the output transformers, anyone know if there is a quality difference? Also any idea of new pots to replace the old tone controls? Really...
Hello all, please bare with the intro, i do get to the question later down the post.
Having recently acquired a 500b, ive gone over it a little. It has a very dark gold plate, lettering and chasis beautiful, stock tubes testing ex. Orig lights still working, pulled from a console and its clear...
I just purchased this console with a Thorens TD 124, Grado wood arm (and another metal tonearm as yet undetermined), powered by a pair of Eico HF 60s, and an Eico preamp HF 85. Also comes with a pair of Eico speakers, HFS 2. I think it has the potential to be an amazing sounding system and I...

Probably should've posted that here in the first place but...mea culpa.
So I will continue here, in EICO place.
The previous thread is at the link above.

Have finished recapping.
I went...
Hello all,
I've been enjoying my AF-4 for many years with almost no maintenance other than some new caps and a thorough cleaning when I found it. I previously used it with digital sources, but lately I've been using it almost exclusively with a turntable.
Since the AF-4 only has...
Hi all..
I picked up Eico HF-81 which has work done by NosValves decade back.. I did post about that earlier in one of the thread. I powered it up in variac at 40 volts and every 20 minutes stepped it up. I did not see the pilot light on even when i turned it on at 40. I slowly brought it...
Hi,
I'll start by saying that this is, ultimately, a "what's it worth" post, so please move it to a more appropriate place if it exists - I'm not that familiar with all of the nooks and crannies of the forum.
As the post title says, I have a new to me Eico 2200 "Classic Series" tuner that I...
is it possible to completely remove power switch mounted on the back of the treble pot assembly on an Eico HF-81?
how do I do it please?... do I have to remove (and unsolder) the assembly first to gain access to it, or can I do it with the pot assembly in place?
the reason I'm asking is that...
