A.I. Advance

It will be OK as long as the person has a bullshit filter. Rome of old had non artificial intelligent (NAI) to wispier in the hero's ear something to the effect that don't let things get into his head :)
We're not even scratching the surface yet....
This NewThing has not even emerged from the cocoon yet. We have no clue yet where this is headed. Think back to the first "bag phones" in the 1980s, they never dreamed it would emerge into what we do with phones today. There was no one saying, "Hey, this will soon lead to guys bankrupting their families betting on baseball games all day while at work."

We're all just the ignorant sheep noticing there's something new brewing in the shearing shed.

The "rulers" by any name you choose are ALWAYS the beneficiaries of technology. The lives of the sheep are always, and will always be, in the hands of the herders. And, for 7,000 years, technology has been the go-to tool of control. The reason is not complicated. Technology is the best tool for extracting excess labor value. Without it, there could be no trillionaires, kings, tsars, POTUSI, bosses. Fire, lever, wheel, printing press, steam engine, telephone, Internet, AI--- it's all one single process of extortion.
In a manner of looking at it technology can be seen as a virus. Run that to its logical conclusion, where human labor is obsolete, not useful.

Bag phone... hell, go back to Bell's invention and the words he first uttered into it... Mr. Watson, come here, I need you.

It's absolutely a virus. No human on Earth can escape its effects and impact. Nor can any of them stop its infectious path.

The ship of Nature was safe, comfortable, and holistic. Humans decided to jump overboard leaving their animal brethren behind. They were jumping into hell and thought it was paradise.

Mistakes happen in Nature.

Looks like someone here never read Dick Tracy as a kid.

I’m hoping technology leads more towards Star Trek rather than Starships Troopers.

Hmmmm? I have zero interest in traveling in space--never caught that bug. I've watched enough Star Trek to know that no one is ever having fun. It's not even fun flying in an airplane. I'm always shocked at the millions who do it on holidays. It was kinda fun in 1968, when at least you had beautiful stewardesses with gracious attitudes to interact with. Now, the b**tards are even taking the fun out of driving a car.

Can you imagine how the guys with bronze swords felt the first time they encountered the enemy who had moved on to iron ones.

Probably like those who for the first time ran into cannons or repeating guns!

Just a sideways random thought this day, eh?

I figure AI is here to stay. In one form or another... or two or three.

Might as well grab a surfboard and ride the wave. I admit to having no control over ultimately where the tide takes me — and that makes me uneasy. Yet I remember all those people when I first started working, who refused to learn how to use a computer on the job (yeah, I'm that old). It was always some excuse. "It's too hard. It's going to ruin the workplace. We will all lose our jobs to computers."

The last statement was true. They were laid off or given early retirement. The ship sailed off without them. :(

I know people who are still mourning the loss of calligraphy jobs when Guttenberg moved us into movable type.

And don’t even mention automobiles to the righteously aggrieved buggy whip makers. You know how many farriers were put out of work?
Yeah. Things move on, no matter how much you try to dig your feet into the dirt.

I told my son to learn as much as possible about AI, whether you think it's good or not. He's into graphic art and animation. It's all AI now. You want a job? You sometimes need to adapt. :)

Seems like we have consistently pushed the boundary of our cage. We broke many and still have more to go. Our natural capabilities have not changed. The self-improvement should come up soon. May be a human revision 1 model (Hum Rev 1) :)

Seems like we have consistently pushed the boundary of our cage

For at least a million years, hoomans had no cage. Then slowly, starting about 7,000 years ago, entire populations were caged, put to work at projects having nothing whatever to do with their own lives.

Joe Blow, driving to his job at the insurance company, where he will spend the entire day shuffling and stamping papers, is thinking about all the work and projects he needs to do when he finally arrives back home, but decides he's now too tired and will have to do them on the weekend. He tries pushing against that boundary.... but he's too tired right now.

Sometimes Joe Blow doesn't need to do anything to have his routine broken.
He walks on a river stream, kick over a big shiny gold color rock .
He sits on couch eating chips, surfing the web, an airplane drop on top of him. :yikes:
Random event or accident can fuel progress slowly. Invention & discovery had happened that way :).
