Comic book collectors

Oh, and on note of X_25's stuff, I would love a dreamcast, I remember playing at a friends house. I think my favorites were, "skies of arcadia", "powerstone", and "darkcloud"...and of course, sonic. Really an underestimated system.

You can pick up a Dreamcast for $30 or so if you look. I have bought mine for $25 and $22. The games are starting to get harder to find though.

I have been meaning to get one too. Some of my best gaming memories was playing Power Stone 2 with friends.

I have hundreds of various old comic books in the attic that my parents kept all thru the years. Some are 35+ years old and I do wish they were worth something now as it would be nice to help fund some college with. But, alas, they are probably not worth much. Same goes with the stamp collection stuff from the mid 70's back when my gradfather worked at the Post Office. He got me all the latest stamps (on sheets) when they came out. I think I even have some Elvis stamps from when he died, too. Wish those had some value. Sigh...

You should get them down and look some of them up. If they are worth something, cool and if not, then you can read them. The old ones are always a hoot to read. You could also give them to me. :D

I've got about 6 boxes of old MAD magazines from the '60s and '70's. Plus there are a few National Lampoons from the 70's too.

Some of them might surprise you...even if not, if you have some 60s Green Lantern issues in there, drop me a line. :D

Have you read any of the new GL stuff?

Yep. I have every issue from #77 of the 1960 series onward - including the spinoffs, mini-series, one-shots and current stuff. I love what Geoff Johns is up to, though I don't know if he plans to continue with the character after the current storyline is wrapped out. He had things plotted out for 50+ issues before #1 came out, and that kind of coherence shows in a tightly-plotted story.

Yes, I'm a hopeless geek. :D

I didn't know that he had that much plotted out but it makes sense because it's been done really, really well. Whenever they try to bring back a character who has died/turned evil it sometimes becomes a cheesy, convoluted mess but Geoff Johns was able to have it make sense and also subsequential bring back the Corps.

I just got Blackest Night #5. I wanted to wait til they had finished it, but I couldn't resist the free ring you got if you bought it. I love all the different colors, especially Larfleeze. I'm kinda wondering how he plans on dealing with the other colors of Lanterns after Blackest Night is done. I'm sure it will recon to a certain extent with a few left over. Maybe they will combine to form a White Lantern?

Do you read any other titles? I have just started reading Scalped, can't put it down.

I've been reading Batman and Detective for years, along with Green Arrow, anything written by Joss Whedon and, in uber-geek mode, any Star Trek comics (I have almost every one since 1979 there).

I don't know what's going to happen with the various Corps, but the story has been a fun ride. Mile High Comics had a great deal recently - buy $20 worth of stuff and they'd send you all eight rings - and they had a 40% off sale at the same time. Just got mine today.

Damn, that's a hell of a deal. Wish I knew about that. I just got done organizing my Pokemon collection, so geeky is nothing new to me. Have you read a series called Bloodhound? It was really well-written and the main character was a hardcore badass. The series got cancelled after only 9 or 10 issues but its one of my favorites.

Haven't heard of that one.

Yeah, I was worried that I didn't get in in time on it, as it turned out they only had 100 sets and managed to scrape up another 100 when the orders started rolling in. Fortunately the package of 8 was in the box today.

I was a big Sgt Fury nut. Mind you none of that wimpy nick fury stuff that mucked it up around 1970.

Fortunately, my comics shop doubles as a decent music/movie/video game store as well. Most of their used vinyl is painfully priced, but they do have some new releases at sane monetary levels. I've picked up Them Crooked Vultures and the John Coltrane ~ A Love Supreme re-release there in the past few weeks, both were excellent.

I collect Hockey cards, and when I was young (long time ago) I use to collect Comics books, mainly the Superman, Spider man, and the Batman varieties.

That's werid, I have seen comic stores double as hobby/video game, but never music. If they had a fairly good music selection I would be broke everytime I left. It's funny that the vinyl is so painfully priced, because I have always found that vinyl and comics get the same price treatment by those people who know aboslutely nothing of their worth. I have gone to antique stores and seen comics go for five bucks simply because they are the first issue. That same ignorance can work for you too. I bought a box of Weird War Tales and a bunch of other old comics for $50. It came down to being less than .50 a comic.

Hey X you have Typing of the Dead on yer DreamCast?

I fricking love that game.

Matt

Now, but it is on the list of things to find sometime.

I think it was available for PC as well.

I found a shop recently that specializes in comics, vinyl, cards and coins. He needs a bigger shop though, about 2/3rds of his comics and vinyl are stacked in boxes in the middle of the shop.
