Commercials You Hate

For me, it is the commercials that inherently prey upon the indigent and old. Reverse mortgage people, I'm talking to you.

The vaginal mesh lawsuit ones are hard to stomach as well.

It really gets me when famous older people do ads for those 'services' that prey on the old or not-so-bright. Do they really need money that bad that they are hawking what are basically scams at the people that watched them on TV and in movies for years? But the Fonz told me a reverse mortgage was good, that old football player said I need a warranty on my car, Larry King said I should take these pills.

Butt (yes, I did that) the one surfer girl in black bikini makes it tolerable, yes?
Dude, RIGHT???? That girl has some cheeks. Sorry, but it's something I thought only I noticed.

Yes, this completely.

I find Larry King to be utterly disgusting.

As I said previously, I haven't had TV in a while.
Years ago Dell had a series of annoying stupid ads; I think they were titled something like "The interns".
They played them again and again, over and over until I about lost my mind.

One evening I couldn't take it anymore.
I called customer service, and laid into them.

After being told that I was being recorded for quality and training purposes, I told her that made me very happy.
I then went on to tell them I was seriously thinking about buying a Dell, but I was so tired of their incessant stupid intern commercials, that I was going to buy something else.

I doubt they pulled the ads due to my call, but I sure felt better. :)

During my radio days, we called that "puking into the microphone". Think car dealers, state fair ads, and tractor pulls.
I don't know a whole lot about radio terminology, but one thing I do know is something an old radio friend relayed to me.
It's something everybody and their brother hates.
Maybe you could explain the term, "Hitting the post"

I may be wrong, but I think that phrase is referring to the fact that most VU meters have a zone that is good, and then you're slamming into the VU "post" which is a physical limitation, and usually means distortion and brickwalled vocals.

Usually due to someone not knowing how to check their levels, and/or getting too loud while reading copy.

EDIT - no, I'm wrong, it's where you talk RIGHT UP to the point where the vocals kick in. My apologies, in the country format where I got my start, I was pretty good at that, and tried to avoid if the intro was exceptionally catchy, or integral to the song. Non musician types working in radio would talk damn near over it.

In the classic rock format, I NEVER did it. I let "the music do the talking".

I had that stuff down to a science, and did some good work, but I'm no @ChicagoTom. That dude is seriously good with copy. You've likely heard him, and just don't know it. Maybe he will chime in.

Indeed.

I think that practice above all other practices in radio should be the most frowned upon.

Another commercial I hate. "I get all my catheters from..." and they are holding up a big long catheter, whipping it around, gesturing with it while they talk... aaaaahhh god, my dick hurts just thinking about it! Mute doesn't even help!!

Mute button and eyelids together work much better :)

I was listening to a podcast the other evening with Jerry "The King" Lawler. Out of the blue he starts hawking some all-natural "blue pill." Yeah, King, I get it, you have to have something to keep up due to dating girls who are young enough to be your granddaughter, but that doesn't mean I want to hear it!

Thanks! Wife and I are laughing our asses off at your post. That dude was lovin’ those catheters.

Any, all, every commercial is an insult to me and my intelligence. But at age 66, I'm pretty sure that nearly all commercials are designed/directed toward others NOT of my age.

I have zero tolerance for all of them.

The mute button on my remote is used more than any other button... save perhaps the volume.

Absolutely!! Here in LA they run that on the all news station. Years ago the LA Times checked it out and exposed it as pretty much a scam that barely sends 10% to a very infrequent and run down camp. For the life of me I don't understand why a news station can't vet the advertisers and weed out the crap.

Needs to be on NAB tape cartridges, so Our Lady Of ITC and Fidelipac can have a ritual sacrifice and a snack when the cart machine decides it is hungry.
