Dead main motor on double motor AR-XA

The main motor on my early XA turntable failed today, what are my options at this point?

Are the coils open? if not, disassemble, wash it and re-lubricate and replace the capacitor, (has to be the same value non-polar and 400+ Volts.

finding a Haydon motor.......kinda hard. A Hurst 3001-001 motor is easy enough to find. you'll need to run a .25uf 600vac phase cap, and you'll need to get the proper pulley for it. The original motor was 600rpm, replacements will be 300rpm.

the coils are open I opened it and it was well lubricated. (I had used Amsoil synthetic oil to lube both motors) I read some people rewire them?

Another option in case anyone is looking into this..... the cover for a Technics SL-20 is the perfect width and just a little bit deeper.

I made some wood shims and put them under the hinge plates with longer screws.

A bonus is the Technics dust cover is taller if you are doing a tonearm graft.

That's not a DC motor, that's simply a hurst motor that george merrill puts his name on.

It does come with a power supply which you connect to the wall, it converts the current to DC, maybe 12 or 24 volts.

I would just like to find an original replacement and call it a day, perhaps someone here has one for sale?

Thanks, to use that one I assume I would also need the pulley because the shaft on mine is of smaller diameter.

marcmorin, do you recommend me to adapt the 3001-001 or the George Merrill one? I want to make the table as quiet as possible

You might be interested in the Origin Live DC motor. You can use what ever pulley fits the shaft as the motor is variable speed. Later added.........I forgot that it comes with its own pulley, so you should be good to go.

Looks like it's made for the European electrical system, the plug on the power supply is different to what we use here in the US of A

No experience with one, but I think there are advantages to an aftermarket motor kit. I did a bunch of tests on motors some time back and concluded that getting a decent synchronous motor these days is tough. They can be noisy (as in I hear the motor running) and are not of the same consistent quality as the USA-produced Hurst motors of long ago. One can special order special versions, but that's not much use to the individual. If one were really serious, a decent DC motor from Maxon, and suitable control circuit would be the way to go, but those motors aren't cheap. I think there were some threads on this over at diyaudio a while back.

Very tempting but I am leaning towards the George Merrill kit. That's it if I can't find an original replacement.

Might be cheaper and easier to find a used turntable that's in rough shape but with a good motor to use.
