Did Quadraflex make decent speakers?

Hey gang..

Just got offered a "large and extremely heavy" pair of old Quadraflex speakers from Pacific Stereo.

Could they be good?

Odds are I'll get 'em, but just wonderin...

If I recall correctly after all these years, I believe these were private label "house" speakers, but I could be wrong. In recent years, I have only seen a few pair, but they looked inexpensive..

speakers i've seen were the equivalent of low end pioneer or technics ..... ported 3 ways
w/ cone tweeters .

The ones I have seen at the thrift had stapled on grills. To me, not worth the effort to pry it off and check them out.

No... 70salesguy worked at another place. I'm pretty sure how it worked was Quadraflex was Pacific Stereos house brand for receivers and they made some pretty damn respectable ones too. The Quadraflex speakers were usually on the lower end of the totem pole while the RSL brand was PS's "high end" store brand. Hell it can't hurt to try them though. I know at least one model of Quadraflexs came with some really good tweeters (SEAS???).

As was mentioned, Pacific Stereo house brand and mediocre to average at best. I wouldn't walk across the street for a free pair.

They'll be no threat to, say, a pair of Large Advents.

Had a neighbor back in the mid 70's with a set of 4 driven by a Quadraflex receiver. The receiver had potential but the speakers were mediocre at best. He dumped them as soon as he got his hands on some JBLs.

AK member "PacificStereo" actually worked for Pacific Stereo, and may have better insight into comparative qualities of various models. Though I don't think he's old enough to have dealt much with the earlier stuff.

a friend's speakers were from a different planet ...like technics or sanyo.

If they are the "Lab Standard Model 1" they are well worth getting. These were the top of the line Quadraflex model with a heavy duty 12" woofer with vented aluminum dustcap, a Jensen cone midrange, and a high power CTS phenolic ring tweeter and they sounded better than they had any right to. If they are any other model I'd probably pass...

I guess I'll grab them and use them either in my basement or give them to a local charity resale...also getting a buncha other stuff from the same person, so it won't be a wasted trip.

They were a house brand for "Pacific Stereo" - as few have already mentioned-and no other store carried them. I remember listening to a pair in the early '80's, very bass heavy, but then again, those were the "Disco" years and they fitted in well with the younger crowd.

The first pair of speakers I ever owned were Quadraflex speakers. About 6 months ago, I saw the exact same pair, in mint condition at a thrift store, for 6 bucks. I passed.

I know this post was a long time ago but I still want to coment. Those speakers are not too bad pair with the right receiver or amp I have a pair hooked up to a Marantz 2216 and for a small room they sound great they even sound good with tube amps that’s the beauty about this hobby pairing the ride receiver to the right speakers and you’re learn as you go.

I owned some 55s too back in the day. They were not bad at all.
