Facebook is down! oh my!

FB isn't all bad. Some of the groups I'm on there are DIY Home Improvement Projects and Advice, Magnepan users group, Turntables, Weber Kettle Mods & Grilling, Vegetable Gardening in the DMV. The last one was a big help for my garden this year. Since I don't spend all day on the page it wasn't missed that much :dunno:

Could we live without it absolutely, great for society as a whole? debatable. Need a hard to find part or advice, join a FB group the part will be in the mail from someone or advice from many others as here that had the same issue.

I was adopted at two months old, after 54 years my birth family and a unknown to me daughter connected via DNA testing. My daughter had to confront her mom about this newfound information as to why her DNA testing connected her to a Portuguese family. Through this and her mom remembering my name I was able to be contacted via Facebook. Outstanding!! would never had happened. Unfortunately it turned her life upside down but she is happy she gained a family as she never "felt right" She will never tell her dad he is not her father because he is.

If you are not using it as a tool for your business you are losing out on a ton of customers.

First time I met my beautiful daughter.

Do you thing they took down all those platforms to scrub the data that makes them look bad in light of the recent whistleblower?

I wouldn't be surprised at Facebook scrubbing unflattering or potentially incriminating data, but my guess about the whistleblower is that is just a false flag operation by Facebook.

Have you even heard what her complaint is? Apparently, Facebook was temporarily doing something questionable and then stopped after achieving their goal. She's disappointed that they stopped.

Really? From listening to her it seems her beef is they started doing something questionable again. Their goal being making more money.

Like a lot of things, it can be a constructive tool or a destructive one. What's the old saying, something like "all things in moderation"? In reality this forum is its own small online social 'thing'. One difference here is it is highly distilled and specific and doesn't try to lure you into other topics to keep you here and clicking.
The other, very distinctive, difference is this site shuts things down when they get heated; whereas the social sites feed on anger and controversy because it keeps people coming back for more ad views. At least if they keep sending you to content that agrees with you and makes you angry towards the other side; which is what they do. I have relatives that get most of their news and information from social sites and youtube; I can no longer discuss any current events with them because they have only heard one side of the issue and they've heard it over and over. Although, in all fairness even the regular news has separated itself into two different camps and largely refuses to report anything that doesn't fit their message.

If you are not using it as a tool for your business you are losing out on a ton of customers.

Key thing there is using it correctly. A lot of businesses spend a lot of money accomplishing nothing with online marketing. But those that sell them the marketing make a lot of money and tell them it is working.

Yep - after Yahoo killed off all their groups for bands and such, I found similar groups on Facebook.
I'm a member of a couple of facebook groups for plants and such

Mid-Atlantic Tropics (folks growing Bananas, Palms, and such in my region - PA to NC)
Virginia Palm Society and other Exotics; (More growing Bananas, Palm trees and such in VA)
Nannorrhops - Growing Mazari Palms (cold resistant palms typically in Afghanistan - I got 2 growing now);
DC Area Audiophiles & High End Home Theater Enthusiasts
The Horn Loudspeaker Forum;
Vintage Altec Lansing Loudspeakers;
and a few others ...
I don't check it by the hour or anything,
but a look every day or so can tun up fun stuff.
Like AK, those groups have moderators that keep things on topic
and don't allow/promote anger-postings.

I credit "Vegetable Gardening in the DMV (Maryland, Virginia and DC) Mid Atlantic" on FB with my tomato success this year :thumbsup:
They have a SONY ES group, which AK doesn't :dunno:
Let's not forget Audiokarma

I joined FB in June, 2010 and left it three months later by winding up the account. A week ago I got an email from Facebook which invited me to return. In order to make the return easier, they gave me a special access number. :wtf:

Hey, my Big Brother Mark! Get another hairdresser! Will you?

However, a new email address would (apparently) solve the problem.

Sorry but that seems like a scam. Glad you didn't bite.

3 pages and no one brings up the irony of people laughing at the troubles of a social media site...posting it on Audiokarma...which is essentially a social media also. The difference is the format is less sophisticated and there are less members. EVERYONE who posts here is participating in social media...including those reveling in this outage in this thread.

See post #33 -- https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/facebook-is-down-oh-my.974077/page-2#post-15107865

nb: I neglected to use the term irony in the post.

You had to bring that up...;)

But, this is a nice place.

Dunno that anyone here thinks Grumpy is a venal egomaniac only interested in wringing the maximum financial return out of AK, regardless of consequences.
