Favorite Bourbon

RTfan,
At 143 proof it will make you hop, skip and go naked. I have a hard time drinking anything over 100 proof.

Believe me, Grainger. That is something no one wants to see not even my wife! :D That Stagg will require some cutting with water before consumption.

Don't cut it much. It's a marvelous sipper. Looks like you found a bottle of the 2009 release, as the 2010 release was only 128 proof.

RT Fan you are going to Like that 20 yr Old Pappy Van Winkle a Lot!!! Very good Bourbon. As for the Stagg it`s definetley a sipper alright! My standard bill of fare is Makers Mark as Costco has it for $25.99 per 1.75ltr here. But there are a few hidden treasures in my Liquor cabinet. Woodford Reserve, 21yr old Black Maple Hill (very very yummy),Knob Creek, Bakers, Eagle Rare and a bottle of Makers 46.

Dok, I have an open bottle of Pappy's 20 year now and I would have to say it is one of the 3 best drinks I have had in my life, the other two being 25 year old Macallan and some 1996 Dom Perignon.
The Stagg's will be going into the bunker as I have some wood to chop in front of it. I have never had the Eagle Rare, but from everything I have read in this thread it has moved to the top of the purchase list. Nice price on the Maker's, that's what a 750ml goes for here in the Big Apple, thanks to all the "sin taxes".

I'm on the Knob Creek emailing list. Yesterday I got a notification that they are bringing out a 9 year old Knob Creek® Single Barrel Reserve.

OOooooo I'm going to give that a try!

I picked up a bottle of Jim Beam Distiller's Reserve 7 year aged for $10 last week - I wasn't terribly impressed with it on the rocks, I still prefer Maker's Mark. It makes a good mixing bourbon, though. As a fan of bourbon, I'll have to try some of the suggestions in this thread.

Anyone know anything about this one? It was apparently my maternal grandfather's favorite sipping bourbon, my dad always kept some on hand in case the grandparents stopped by. We found this sealed bottle in the back of a closet several years ago, next to a sealed bottle of Crown Royal with a 1976 tax seal. (I have the bottle of Crown, still sealed, here next to the Benchmark.)

I don't know if they still use this bottle but I know it well. If you like Maker's Mark you should like Benchmark. I used to drink it back in the late 70s. It isn't as sweet as Maker's Mark but still in that range of taste.

And for a really strange quirk, Bourbon can be made ONLY in Kentucky. Notice that Jack and George are both Tennessee sipping whiskey.

Tennessee whiskey is made using the "Lincoln County Method" which involves filtering through charcoal.

I don't think bourbon has to be produced in Kentucky. There's a distillery in Brooklyn and one in Texas. (I think)

I love trying small batch Kentucky Bourbon's whenever that opportunity arises and I've been known to enjoy a Scotch from time to time. Shooter, straight or with a little ice and water.

Some notables I enjoy which are in my bar right now would include Evan Williams Single Barrel, Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey, Woodford Reserve. My favorite blended whiskey is probably Founders Whiskey (by Canadian Club), and I don't often turn down a Dalwhinnie, Glenlivet or a Johnny Walker (Black or Blue - won't touch the red).

When I sit down to drink however, Jack Daniels is what's in my glass. I find Wild Turkey very close to the taste and overall feel of JD, but of course stronger. JD is just about right.

Tonite was for bourbon-started with some Corner Creek Reserve, on to a little Wild Turkey. Next is one that's new to me- Gentleman Jack. It all sips nice!

I actually have a bottle of Everclear. I think I got it in Virginia, where it's sold as rocket fuel.

I poured some out in a plastic cup and set it on fire (outside) when I was a teenager. The flames were absolutely clear, the only way you could tell where the flame was was to look for the burned-off edge of the cup.
