Favorite Bourbon

hmm...i kinda like it. i used some actual tea extract and honey with water and bourbon. quite tasty. :thmbsp:

i see that i just about finished all of the following bottles at the same time.... my thoughts:

-Glenlivit 12 (too peaty for me)
-Glanmorangie org. (too light and mellow - really wanna try the 18 yr)
-Jefferson presidential select (my last bottle...wish i had money for more of these)

i see that i just about finished all of the following bottles at the same time....

Finishing all those at the same time should create a bad hangover. I have read, in a book, Scotch produces the worst hangovers, probably, followed closely by Bourbon.

Just an observation.

Trying a glass of John E. Fitzgerald's "Larceny", more Wheat then Corn KSBW. How they can call it that it is not over 50% corn I don't know or care because it works! The distributor as telling me it was mainly wheat then corn no rye.

Nice taste not as sweet as I thought it should be from the color. But maybe with a little water or ice it might open up more. Will see.....

O BTW there is a mail in rebate on the bottle $10 on 750ml and $20 on 1.75ml.

Interesting fact from the web site....http://www.larcenybourbon.com/our-legacy/

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE LEGEND

"Revealed in a family biography of Pappy Van Winkle, John E. Fitzgerald was not actually the man he has always been portrayed as. He was in fact a bonded treasury agent, who at the time were the only people legally allowed to carry the keys to the barrel storage warehouses.

Mr. Fitzgerald apparently had a particularly discerning palate for fine Bourbon, and would use his warehouse keys to gain access to the best barrels, which eventually became known around the distillery as “Fitzgerald barrels”. Herbst, and then Pappy, immortalized the man who had both the keys and the fine taste by naming the brand Old Fitzgerald.

Now Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon honors both the superb taste of this lawless treasury agent and the legacy of the Old Fitzgerald brand."

Tried this one for the first time a couple nights ago. A lot like the normal KC, but a little stronger in flavor and ABV. Of course it costs more as well...

Random question: Who here drinks whiskey with water? What is the w/w ratio you prefer? Personally, with the normal Knob Creek I do about a 50/50 ratio with room temp bottled water, unmeasured. I've found that mix takes the edge off enough for me to enjoy it.

My general attitude is that anything bottled under 100 proof already has a good splash of water added. Bourbons above 100 proof, I will sometimes add an ice cube (in warm weather). Bourbons over 120, a gentle 'splash' of spring water. Or not.

For 80 or 86 proof, I generally drink it neat. For higher proofs, I add a very small amount (~1 TB) of filtered or bottled water. I no longer drink any whiskies with ice or mixed in any other way, other than a very occasional scotch and soda.

Four Roses, Makers or Beam -- whatever the LCBO is promoting. Up here in the Great White North we pay on average $27 and up for a 750mL bottle so I buy what's cheapest. :smoke:

Smoked a third turkey for the season in my Big Green Egg yesterday afternoon. While waiting and basting I had a couple of Ezra Brooks and 2 ice cubes.

A drink I will call a White Kentuckian, W.L. Weller and equal measure of BuffaloTrace's Bourbon Cream on ice. No egg nog left so experimented some. Not to bad I must say.

A post Christmas present to myeslf is a Glenclarin Glass. A small snifter. So far I have tried my daily standby Ezra Brooks and Knob Hill. It is conducive to slow sipping even with the low priced spread.

A picture will surely follow.
