Favorite Bourbon

Two Liquor stores had Weller 12 on Black Friday. It was gone in 15 minutes at both locations. The going price is $99 for the 1.74l. Your nephew is a very kind guy.

I still have one maybe two drinks from the 1.75l I bought two years ago. I had some week before last, it is awesome. Why can't we find a Bourbon this good that is not in short supply?

For those among you who might like to dabble in different spirits, Bernheim Wheat Whiskey (Small Batch) is not a bad choice. Holds me over when my favorite bourbon runs out.

Our nephew brought this in on Thanksgiving! He was a hit that day. Crappy picture.

We recently had a tasting that included some rare and wonderful bourbons, and that Weller stood strong, only slightly edged out by a 23 yo PVW (http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/best-music-for-a-bourbon-taste-off.743020) . It was somewhat easy to find in my parts, whereas the Pappy's were extremely difficult.

I'm not sure what the heck is going on in the bourbon world the past few years, but the demand is nothing short of amazing. Futures look strong too: I have a friend in the lumber business that told me the price of white oak is through the roof, and all his stock was sold in batch to buyers for bourbon barrel production (vs. cabinetry, flooring, or other typical users). Get what you can now as nobody anticipated this 12 years ago!

My two most recent pours were Four Roses Single Barrel, which I rate very highly even though I prefer wheat bourbons, & some Rittenhouse BIB 100 proof Rye, which I liked better neat, rather than made into a Manhattan.

Man, I've got to give FOUR ROSES SINGLE BARREL a try. I hear nothing but very positive comments on FRSB. I also wish I could find Rittenhouse BIB. I'm a fan of BIB Bourbons.
That being said, I still very much enjoy "OLD GRAND DAD" BIB.

SixCats!

What's the difference between whisky and bourbon? I usually like to get a couple sample bottles of this along with some beer from the liquor store.

Overall my favorite is Old Weller 107, but it's getting very hard to find now that people have realized that it's basically Pappy Van Winkle that hasn't been aged as long.

As far as bourbons that are easy to find - it's hard to pick just one. I usually cycle through different stuff. But over all I prefer Heaven Hill and Buffalo trace products and am not a huge fan of Beam products.

After trying dozens of bourbons at all price points over the past decade or so, I've concluded that my favorites are plain ol' Buffalo Trace at a lower price point and Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve (120 proof) for a few more bucks.

I finally got around to trying the Buffalo Trace. It was nowhere up to par with Jefferson's Reserve or Ocean which was my starting point. I drank it but will probably not get another.

I finished off a bottle of Knob Hill Rye and am about to order in 2 bottles of Templeton Rye which we drank on vacation in December and it was real smooth and easy to drink.

Also just got a Gift Card to the Iron Abbey here local that has a Whiskey Loft, so we will be doing some flights there real soon to find more good ones.

When I was at my local spot, they asked me if I wanted the one bottle of Pappy they had. I was a little short on pocket change that day and just couldn't pull $1700 out of my butt.

I regret not buying more of Jefferson's presidential 18 yo when it was $90/bottle a several years ago. I enjoyed every drop of two bottles I got. Last price I saw was around $120/bottle, but I can't even find it anywhere.

Holy crap! Just did some search and seeing some selling at $1000??!

Had my first taste of William Larue Weller last night, not sure which version it was but the proof had to be north of 130+. Had 2 glasses of water before I finished it. Tasty but needs to be savored in small doses. A real beast!
