I'm with you on this. I suppose people from Maine call it "Ayux" and New Hampshire people call it "Ayawks" (Of course, people from South Boston would then call it "Yawks" ).

I wonder if people from NYC and Jersey call it "Owks" (You know, like "Awwdi" for Audi instead of "Owwdi").

I lived in Jersey until a few years ago (south), and we all say "Owwdi" (think "Ow-dee" explains it better).
Of course, south and north are pretty different, with north being influenced by New York and South being influenced by Philly.

"Ow" rhymes with owl, fowl, foul, pout, out, etc...
"Aux" rhymes with talks, walks, baulks, etc...

They you aren't pronouncing it correctly. (Or perhaps not pronouncing "ox" correctly?) It may be an issue of a non-standard dialect/accent, or a personal idiosyncrasy, or just a wrong pronunciation.

I could be wrong on the locale, but I have heard quite a few people say "Awwdee". Actually, I just thought of a good example. Remember that guy in the movie "Ronin" that drove the Audi S8 (He was the one trying to ram the other car off the road... the car carrying "the case"). He called it an "Awwdee S8". One of my brother's friends calls it that as well (I can't remember if he's from NYC or Philly though).

Going back to the first post, it's pronounce Aux. I don't understand the need to get into various spellings of the phonetic sound when the word itself plainly spells it out. You pronounce "aux" as "aux". (Or just say auxiliary.)

If that was true then faux would be pronounced the same as fox and note bending wouldn't have any artisitic value.

For example my ears would much rather hear the twang of owks than the preciseness of aux. And for sure I would rather bend over a fox than a Cherry 2000, which is a faux.
