I remember my brother and I drawing flags of the countries that sided with the U.S. during the Cuban Missle Crisis. Going in the hallways at school and putting our heads between our knees and covering our necks with our hands for Civil Defense drills. All the westerns on TV. Let's see how many I can remember. Cheyenne, Have Gun Will Travel, Sugarfoot, Maverick, The Rifleman, Loredo, Bat Masterson, High Chaparral, Bonanza, Johnny Yuma (The Rebel), Wagon Train, Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Bronco, Wyatt Earp, Lawman, Zorro, Texas John Slaughter (men do what they oughta 'cause if they didn't they died), Daniel Boone, Big Valley, Cimarron Strip, Lone Ranger, Wanted Dead or Alive, Tombstone Territory,,,, Quinn Martin Productions, scary sci-fi and horror like Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Boris Karloff's Thriller, Outer Limits, The Invaders...My head is starting to hurt.

I remember Desoto and Nash.
I remember my favorite TV programs "Hopalong Cassidy", "Rin Tin Tin" and "Highway Patrol".
I remember my favorite cartoon was "Mighty Mouse".
I remeber my favorite movies were with Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin.
I remember when you could smoke anywhere, including movie theaters, elevators and retaurants, and it did not bother anybody.

I remember my dad using his high beams to "ask permission" before passing a tractor trailer. If the truck flashed back it was OK to pass. (Wish they'd put the dang high beam back on the floor where it belongs so I wouldn't keep accidentally hitting that dang stalk and blinding everybody.) My Dart had its windshield washer squirter on the floor, too. It was a simple rubber bulb - if you really stomped on it you'd get the guy behind you at the light.
I remember vacuum driven windshield wipers that would slowly come to a complete stop if you were climbing a steep hill and your motor was old and its compression low. (I'm really not that old but I used to drive a '57 Cadillac Series 62 back in HS.)
I remember when you only saw tattoos on servicemen, bikers and criminals and earrings were only worn by women and pirates.
I remember walking a significant distance to elementary school where I was taught New Math (sets and subsets) and it really was NEW.
I remember tree forts - REAL tree forts built from scrap lumber way back in the woods, way up in the tops of tall trees that parents knew nothing about.
I remember streets FULL of kids all day long - going exploring in the woods and heading home for lunch or dinner when I got hungry. As darkness fell the more protective parents would call theirs in. It was usually way after dark when I heard my name.
I remember Saturday Morning Cartoons as the highlight of my week.
I remember when flying was still glamorous; when you walked out across the tarmac to the mobile stairway without passing through a metal detector and the planes were rarely more than 2/3 full and the flight attendants were amazing.

I remember that too well. During high school, I juggled the pet and garden departments, netting the dead fish out of the tanks or carting dead crepe myrtles to cars for little old blue-haired ladies so I could pay for that 32 cent gasoline and those 35 cent cigarettes.
