Let's hope the GP event on the streets of Montreal isn't similarly impacted next weekend... this Indy street course in Detroit reminded me of the ugly industrial street tracks Formula E has used in recent years, like the down one by the piers in NY.

Not every street race will become the next Long Beach or Monaco, at some point it just becomes a novelty event.

Yeah only thing missing in that race was a dumpster fire. Hopefully Indycar and Detroit will reconsider another location.

Memory slip mate must of had that Indy fiasco on your mind. I know you know that the Canadian GP is held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Located on Ile Notre-Dame, (( an artificial island in Montreal. This island in the St Lawrence River was built in 1961. ))

I do know that, have been there and even driven through where the track is.

I posted that in a hurry the other day, was thrown by a poorly written article that I skimmed (and didn’t fact-check), probably written by an AI bot . The article suggested a different venue and I bit.

But yeah, same old course as usual this weekend. I think what maybe threw the bot off is they do refer to this course as a street course which though technically true doesn’t quite describe this facility fully. It’s closer to a purpose-built course in some respects and even comes with its own name, Circuit Villenueve. You don’t see that with many street tracks.

Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America this weekend.
The rural race track near Lake Elkhart, Wisconsin. The track resurfacing was completed last Oct-Nov. and promises faster lap times and new record lap times set. Already in pretesting Pato O'ward already set a time 0.04+ faster so the race should be better than ever.

Colton Herta takes pole after many a driver had Handling issues and spin-outs especially turn 7 where Herta spun in practice as well with 3 track spins total without a wreck. With the new surface most high speed turns are tricky to hit online else a spin and more than a few drivers got caught in gravel traps and hit walls which brought out red flags and others more fortunate escaped to recover in the grassy areas or runoffs.

Roman up to his usual. Glad he had a middle of his career success as the front half was a mess and it seems that is what he is going back to. But we are very happy he proved the effectiveness of the halo.

Too bad for Herta but Palou is just unstoppable and even if herta had pitted later I don't think he could of held off Palou.

I have to say I'm no fan of the silly mandatory tire change rule. From what I've seen it just screws the race up.

Palau passes Herta who had led 33 of 55 laps with 7 laps to go. I do believe Palau had push to pass in on hand and I've seen other race leaders taken in closing laps w/P-P as well. I don't like it as the leader can't defend against that extra power boost. I'd rather see using P-P if it gets the driver up into say the top 6? then after that it's up to car and driver to challenge with out it. Shame with such a dominating performance to finish 5th.

Considered a challenging Road Course with the track designed with the rolling landscape contour.s. Should be good given drivers fighting for points.

Palou keeps putting it away every week. Another bummer for Herta.

Alex Palou wins again with approx 9 sec lead over team mate Scott Dixon. Pole starter Herta who had lost the lead to Palou was fighting Dixon in the pit lane rotation took a pit lane infraction and stop and go penalty sending him to 11th. Eyes were on Pato O'ward starting from 25th held 2nd for awhile but pitting and having to conserve fuel in the final stint finished 8th.

Qualifying: Right after round one rain set in and cars were on wets through to the fast six. Come rain tomorrow the field will be narrowed for leaders/winners and expect wrecks and over shoots into the run offs.. even in dry conditions.
Points leader Alex Palou will have a tough time starting from Row 8 on this tight street course.

An enjoyable race that was not marred with multiple yellows nor was the finish determined by a short sprint. Lundgaard and his team were very good.
