Since you now have those ( 2328 adapters ) why not make your own Walnut smith type horns.

Realistically, ( for some nice listenable ) audio you don't even need the internal vanes.

If you still have them, haul out your Fostex H420 ( expo-smith horn hybrids ) , give them a listen, and then ponder up-sizing them to fit a 2" exit/entry driver.

Westlake monitors ( finally ) built their own vaneless Fostex-Smith horns ( there's little magic there . just some common sense design & nice wood-working ) .

Thanks Todd! I think I'm set now with a pair each of the drivers and adapters!
The question now is what horn to use, and what to pair them up with.

For starters, I can always stack them on top of the Heath/Altec Valencias,
using them instead of the internal Altec horn/driver combo,
but not sure where to go in the long term.

Seems the 2216nd woofers aren't really available right now, if I was to go to the route of
an L200 or 4430 style 2 way.

You will also find several horns of assorted types on C/L if you search within 200 miles of 92705. Drivers are heavy, but easily fit in an "If It Fits It Ships" box. Horns..., not so much.

I have Emilar EH-200, Yuichi, Smith horns, some of those 1.5" 50 x 90 Econowave horns (I can never remember the model number) and ended up liking the H4338 most of all. Unobtainium of course, as with so many JBL parts these days.

I'm looking for more local offerings for the 2" drivers, but thanks.

The D8R2452SL diaphragm will drop right in to the 2445. The Yuichi & 2445...it's gotta be ~80+lbs of stuff when mounted together.

A 2445 can definitely do 500Hz, if it's loaded properly in a big enough horn.

The original THX theater systems, designed by Tomlinson Holman, used dual JBL 15s (usually 2225s) vertically stacked, along with a large biradial horn using a 2445 driver, as the HF unit. The original crossover point was 500Hz- more than one article describing this system, stated that the woofers were stacked vertically, so that the vertically narrowing angle of the woofers' polar pattern at 500Hz, would be the same as the vertical polar dispersion of the horn on the 2245, at 500Hz. That made for a very consistent, even, power balance through the crossover region- and was one of the reasons the THX speakers sounded good, with consistent tonal balance, from virtually any seat in a movie theater- something which was very uncommon, beforehand...

Not sure I'd even want those in my Mid-century semi-modern living room (too industrial)!
... tho I have considered building updated 4430s with the 2" drivers ...

It just takes a bit of dedication and property management. Do what I did. Outdoor kitchen, outhouse, stereohouse.

Hi Earl! Smith horns are real tempting.
Sadly, those teak Fostek smith horns, drivers and related tweeters went south shortly after I started the Valencia project.
But I've got a chance to buy a pair of JohnW walnut horns like my old ones!
I'm not breaking any new ground if I go that route - but I have fond memories of my pair sounding sweet.
And, like you say, I already have the 2" adapters for them, and it seems like the right way to go.

Just ordered 4 Yung 50watt 8 ohm Lpads from Madisound - sheesh,
price has DOUBLED on them since I bought them last in 2018!

Don't laugh, JBL actually released a stage monitor using the throat adaptor from the 2365 horns as the full horn for the HF drivers.

Took a few moments to test the drivers I got last week. Don't have any horns yet,
so I bolted the adapters on just to protect the diaphrams.
Demoed with "NRPS - Lyceum 1972 - Glendale Train" via Qobuz HiRes and Jolida tube amp.
Wow! Thats a palate cleanser ...
Don't know what diaphrams they have in them, but they sound great, even without the walnut horns!

As for the 4430, didn't someone on lansing forum take up some such upgrade? Made custom adapters, whatnot? Were you referring to the D2?

The Speaker Exchange in Florida just confirmed shipment, so I should have the pair of 2216nd woofers mid-next week!
Now I need to find a pair of L200 (or 4333) cabinets to start assembling the parts into.

Reckon one highly important start, is getting the Bass right. I know you love the challenge of such "cans of worms" to weed through, carry on! LOL

In theory, the dispersion should be wider if you turn those 90 degrees..., at least until you get some horns on them.
