mmm.. nice Fred.. but sure looks like it's had the hell played outta it... Ya know.. if you gave up those big Rodeo belt buckles the back would look a little better..

It's kind of odd, actually, I don't generally wear belt buckles when playing. I think it's just because I usually only have about three basses at a time, with this getting the most mileage of all of them. I've also had it the longest, 20+ years now. There's never less than 15-30 guitars around, so very few of them ever see this much playing time. OK, the sticker covered Vantage Avenger has more than this much wood worn away from the FRONT of the guitar, so I guess that one wins.

I'll post my #2 bass in a minute, it's sticker-covered, too.

1986 Aria Cat Bass, purchased for ~$75 in pretty poor shape about 15 years ago. It's become the knock-around utility bass, for when I don't want to use or lend out the Spector. It has EMG passive pickups in it, not bad for the price. Another guitar that people generally frown at until they play it or hear it. This pic is from '97 or so, it's accumulated a few more "adornments" since then.

Dug out a pic of the Ibanez Maxxas. Interesting guitar, easy to play, but the bridge seemed to just shed parts while playing, and they were unique to this guitar so finding replacements is tough. Note the single surviving intonation-setting screw in the pic- luckily the saddles lock down after adjustment, so only one screw is needed, really. Very light weight chambered body.


It's still "in the family", with a close friend & co-collector in CA.

The first word that pops to mind about its sound it "metallic". Edgy, distinct, always has a clear pick attack with overtones no matter how distorted or muddy you try to make it. Harmonics fly out of it. Sounds kind of spanky when not overdriven, I don't remember it sounding really full when clean. I attribute a lot of that to the pickups, but I'm sure it's a combination of things. VERY comfy & light, pretty effortless to play. Goofy stacked beehive volume knobs.

Are you near San Francisco? That's where it lives now...

Left: You don't see these too often. Fender's HM Strat. Found this in a pawn shop and no one would buy it because of the color. I'd wanted one for 10 years and could never find one that was in decent condition. This one's mint. This very well might end up my favorite. Fun to play. I don't plan on modding this at all.

Man oh man, that is a sweet archtop! You probably just showed me my next quitar. I have been looking at the Ibanez and Epiphones, but haven't bit yet. That cognac sunburst looks absolutely gorgeous!

Guitars as art

I recently purchased three wall hooks, to hang my guitars, and wanted to share a group shot. These are hanging in my livingroom, above my stereo. They look great on the wall, and I don't have a bunch of stands taking up space now. As you can see, I guess I'm a fan of Godin guitars.

Very nice! I have two of those mounts kicking around, my wife actually said she wants a couple guitars as wall art ("The pretty ones"). Haven't gotten around to installing them, but I've picked the spot. Yours look great, always wanted to try some Godin, but I probably shouldn't...:nono:

Good guess. It is my kid's art work from about ten years ago. It was her attempt at making an African tribal shield with cardboard and chopsticks. We liked the looks of it so much, that we've had it hanging in various spots around the house since she made it. When we remodeled a few years ago, we installed picture rail moulding, so we can swap out the art without having to put holes all over the walls. I guess I blew that though with the guitars. The hooks are screwed right into the studs.

Yeah, get those good lookin' guitars on the wall. For about the three days after I hung them up, evry time one of us walked into the room, we'd have to comment about how good they looked. I also feel like I have to give them all equal playing time now, seeing them all there together.:guitar:

This is my messy wall of guitars. In my bedroom, obviously, 'cos i'm only 16, and having them in the living room is kind of impossible.

I find it kinda funny how all 5 instruments have a different colour fingerboard.

WOW.....nice looking gear!!
I bought my first amp and guitar at 16.....in 1969.
It was a single pickup Teisco E-110 and a solid state Teisco Checkmate 88, with twin 8" speakers.
Pretty crappy gear at the time.....but the only thing I could afford.....working part-time at a Gold Course.
Now days.....you can get decent gear.....that doesn't say.....Fender or Gibson.
Was a lot harder to do.....back in 1969.

By the way, forgot to explain the gear....

The minty lookin' one is a really cheap Kramer focus 111s, my first guitar! The red'n is a 70's morris hurricane, set me back a whole £80 , the black acoustic is a fender CD-60CE, the bass guitar is a ESP LTD B-50, and the one in the middle is an Ibanez RG1570, the most expensive thing there, lol.

The Little bass amp is a Line 6 lowdown LD-15 and the big amp is a Peavey Valveking 112.

I could and should spend the money on getting audio gear, not guitars and amps.

They're currently on the studio walls, on custom-made oak racks (see posts # 7 and #9 in this thread, one holds 6 guitars and one usually 3 basses + baritone). This will be their first invasion back into the "living space" since my wife moved in ~1998.
