I tried to buy a new ‘96 as the new family car, but could not close the deal with my wife. She was all in except for the interior, even with the big motor and buckets she said it looked like something my dad would drive. She was not wrong. The closest thing to a true American muscle* car since the Buick Grand National which culminated in the ’87 GNX.

* muscle cars predated and excluded Pony cars, but over the years they have become synonymous. Muscle cars were the 2 door, big motor, High Performance, full and mid sized versions of boring 4 door family cars.

Throwback Thursday picture. In 93 I traded my 68 Chevelle SS that I had owned since 78 for a 67 Nova with no engine. Stay at home wife just had our third child so I had to build an engine out of leftover junk parts. It was a 396 big block, had some standard bore pistons from a 402 so I bored it to fit those pistons. 10.5 compression with heads I ground on for 50 hours. Only new parts were cam, lifters, bearings and rings. Had about $300 in it not counting intake and carburetor. Ran 10.37 in the quarter.
Track closed up long ago.

Now that’s parts bin motor if ever there was one. A coworker at George Chevrolet had a stripped Chevy ll beater with an overachiever 327. It ran a 13.65 at Lyon’s on street tires and a 1 legged .308 rear end. Circa ‘71, jaws dropped, heads were scratched.

As a side note industrial designer Raymond Loewy had a hand in its design.He also designed the Fairchild 260,275 amplifiers and 245/248 preamplifiers.

I hope he finishes it... My wife's uncle had a 1939 Ford Coupe that he was turning into a street rod. It was a 15 year project that never made it out of primer, but he did get to drive it a couple times before dementia took its toll and he couldn't drive anymore. He died about a year after diagnosis, he was only 70 when it hit, and it hit him hard and fast.

He actually was pushing it back into his garage when I came upon it.He was actually out driving it around just before.Somwthing went wrong as they usually sometimes do until you get it dialed in and he had some friends help him push it.Thwre was a local car show which I suspect he was on his way too or came back from.All I know after talking to him he told his friend to go pick up a 8 pack of beer.
I love talking to people about there cars when and if they're present as just taking a picture sometimes leaves me wondering the story behind it.
No different than audio gear or any other hobby. I enjoy sharing the pictures I take and have many more I've taken throughy the years and will be contributing more to this thread and if there's a story behind it that I can remember I'll share it as well.

Dimentia is a terrible thing my mom's twin sister who just turned 78 it came on fast also.She is still alive though but the disease is taking its toll.My mom seems to have the onset of it and I feel that it won't be long before it gets her so I go visit her at the care home she is in every chance I get.On the plus side both sisters are at the same care home so they can visit each other .
