lets see your ride !

yes, 1992 240 wagon for me. My 7th Volvo, 4th 200 series, and 4th wagon. I'm currently shopping for a XC90 Sport with the Yamaha built V8

I knew a guy like you in Urbana, IL. The Volvo 240 series wagons were all he'd ever driven, starting around the mid 1970s, when he arrived in the USA from Serbia. He was still driving V-240s the last time I saw him circa mid 1990s.

This is a pic of my "fun" car : a late in the yr. 2003 BMW Z8 Alpina Roadster # 513 out of a total of 555 produced.

In the background is my 1987 restored Chevy Astro Van, and my mid yr. 2006 Mini S.

This spur of the moment, pic was taken about 5 yrs ago, by my house keeper/care giver, as I was about to go for a 100 mile country highway drive to exercise the BMW`s legs, as it`s not my daily driver.

Maybe she thought I might get in a crash, and wanted to document my car, and myself, in case !

I fell in love with my Grandfather's neighbor's 1968-69 P1800 (Black with Red interior) when I was a toddler, the man sold it to my Grandfather for me when I was 15, He drove it a year, broke down a bunch of times because it was 15 years old with 20,000 miles on it (basically new but sat in the driveway forever)... so he sold it before I could drive it :( Fast forward to 1989 when I was shopping for an under $2500 car, my old man was a Saab guy and all of my family drove Saab 900 models... the dealer he was friends with just had a pristine 1981 242 traded in, and they let me have it for what they gave the guy (about $1800). since then I've had a 262c... 240, 740, and V70 wagons. Like I mentioned, next up I'm hunting for the right XC90 V8 :)

I still love the look of the model 1800 and see a few -- I think it's the same half dozen but they're different cars owing to color variations -- on the roadways around the greater Metz region. There isone in particular, a realy nice hue of yellow, that is simply spectacular in looks, condition, and eve "tone" of the motor. I have had a few opportunites to see this one up close (I think "it lives" in my town) and it's a pleasant surprise every time I encounter it. BTW, SAAB 900 and 903 and 9000 series remain quite popular in France and Luxembourg and their (resale, etc.) value -- especially turbo-equipped coupes and or drop tops -- is very strong. A 1984 900 turbo (red) recently sold @ local "antique" auto auction in Luxembourg city for Euro 18,500 -- that's $22,500. Not a bad return on a 36-yo car w/ minimal restoration investment. Thing has low miles (ok: kilometers), something like 25,0000 original (miles).

Over here Viggens -- especially the '98 model in Blue -- routinely bring Euro 20,000 w/ odometer @ 30,000 - 50,000 miles. Specimens w/ fewer than 30,000 miles jumpto around Euro 25,000. Layter model year Viggens, while desirable (and a bit more HP), can be had for less, but not a lot less. By model year 2000 (its finale), the line included a "sedan" variant which, if in silver or black finish, can be had comparatively cheap, say top condition for Euro 9,000 to 12,000 depenfing on the odo reading.

Very cool....can you list the particulars (drivetrain, suspension, etc.) ?

Yikes, I hope I don’t go overboard with too much minutiae. Or if I left something out, feel free to ask. It was a few years ago so I had to look up some of the details.

I’ll go top to bottom. It’s a Sid Chavers BopTop removable top which I usually leave off for most of the year. It only takes a few minutes to install or remove. I got a roadster because I wanted an open car. The body is all steel by Brookville with a 2” chopped windshield; also has their louvered hood, though I usually drive with the hood sides off. It sits on a reinforced Kilbourne ’32 Ford frame with a Pete & Jakes drilled and chromed dropped straight front axle; 3.55 Ford 9” posi, coilovers on the rear. My buddy did a lot of work on the car including custom built rear suspension stabilizers to help it hook up and stay straight. It has a TH350 trans with a Jake’s Performance Stage 2 build and B&M Hole Shot torque convertor with a mild stall. I already have a very fun car with a manual 6 speed so I wanted a built automatic for this one.

The engine is a small block Chevy based Dart SHP block, bored and stroked to 427 c.i. (4" stroke, 4.125" bore), Dart Pro 1 heads, 10 to 1 compression; 2618 forged pistons, 4340 H-Beam rods, Scat 4340 forged crank; Howard hydraulic roller cam; roller rocker arms and roller lifters; 0.080” wall chrome moly push rods; Howard HP valve springs and chrome moly retainers. Dart dual plane intake manifold with a Quick Fuel 4-barrel carb; MSD Pro ignition; Sanderson full length headers.

Wheels are American Racing polished Salt Flats, 15” front, 16” rear.

My buddy who I mentioned above also made the custom seats for me. I wanted something comfortable but somewhat unique and always liked bomber seats so he made these for me. One cool design feature is the edging along the seat metalwork. He slit 3/8” OD tubing and welded it along the entire edge to give it that rounded effect. Another local buddy did the upholstery which turned out really cool IMO.

Here's a quick traction test:

Wow, that`s a First Class build, from bumper to bumper....STEEL body (!) forged internals (!) Custom interior (!) yes, I`m impressed !

Thank you for the kind words, MaxxVolume. If you're ever around SE PA we can go for a drive.

Here's a side shot I took on a drive thru the local countryside because how many times do you see a hot rod in front of a field of alpacas. They didn't spit at me.

Btw, this is with M&H drag radials on back which are only 28" tall so while they do hook up I think the car looks better with a 30" tall tire which I have on it now.
