The CDP is a Shanling CD-T100 HDCD. I picked it up about 10 years ago.

Beautiful Job ! Terry is "THE MAN" you too Luther ! Nice Work, this is really what it's all about reproducing clean Music ! This is what I really love about this hobby,seeing stuff like this ! Not to mention being able to listen after a restoration. It's Magic ! :thmbsp:

There is no preamp. The Shanling has a variable gain out. So it is direct to the amp. Music simplicity
I thought that might be the case. I do the same thing a lot for amp testing, but I've never set up a system that way. Too many sources.

I seem to remember you did a custom build of a stock wired Bottlehead S.E.X. amp. I saw it when I was researching Bottlehead amps to use as a headphone amp. It was very modern looking and had more chrome than a 58 Caddy.

I have a potentially dumb question, and I acknowledge its potential stupidity. Here goes...Terry, I know you are known for being a crack Mc repairman, do you work on McIntosh exclusively or do you entertain other brands? Please take it easy on me, other folks here! I know no better than to ask. I would like to get some expert work done on a Harman Kardon 430 that's blowing fuses. I have a local tech that does work on these but he won't mod, will only repair to factory spec. I'd like a bit of an upgrade. Thanks for going easy!
Terry works on just about anything electronic. He recently rebuilt an HH Scott Stereomaster 312 tuner for me and took a look at a Harman Kardon AVR for me that was toast because it required proprietary parts.
You will not find anyone more reasonably priced than Terry. He did some work on a McIntosh pre-amp I used to have. I knew what the McIntosh dealer here wanted to do the work. Terry came back so much lower I sent him more than he billed me.

Well, I can answer this part of your question-- Terry's got my Mc C20 and my Marantz 8B in his waiting line... pretty darn sure they're both going to sing like new when he's done!

I had one of those Shanlings for about 6 months - totally changed my opinion of how good a cd could sound (and image). Factory support is non existent though so you better know someone creative who can fix it if you decide to pick one up. Speaking of which it's heavy and much more substantial than it looks.

Also, great color choice on that amp. As a matter of fact the whole room interior/furnishings has a real nice harmony. I like the textured walls too. Can I move in? I'm quiet and I don't eat much.

I really like the Shanling. Our local audio group compared 5 different CDP, with the Shanling playing last. It opened many eyes as the music opened up. All the sudden the other players seemed veiled. I like it so much I also picked up the CD-T1500 SACD version.
Yes I still have the little 6DN7 Bottlehead. At 1 1/2 watts per channel you need high efficiency speakers. I made some banana to RCA adapters and use it for a tube preamp.
I'm using SED Winged C 6L6GC tubes and do like them a lot.
The clay figure is a bit of an abstract home/tree/jug thing my daughter did years ago. She is very artsy. She works in clay, oils, water color, pen & ink, and designs clothing. My house is full of her stuff.

Thanks wgrr. I'm sure that once I contact him and get in line, I'll be satisfied with the outcome after all the accolades he gets from everyone he services. I'm looking forward to contacting him and proceeding with this and another possible job.

I second the vote for the SED's :thmbsp: I was looking for some NOS RCA 6L6GC's but maybe I'll try some Cryo'ed SED's as an upgrade instead. As for my small signal tubes I am running NOS RCA's.
