I really like the Shanling. Our local audio group compared 5 different CDP, with the Shanling playing last. It opened many eyes as the music opened up. All the sudden the other players seemed veiled. I like it so much I also picked up the CD-T1500 SACD version.

Yes I still have the little 6DN7 Bottlehead. At 1 1/2 watts per channel you need high efficiency speakers. I made some banana to RCA adapters and use it for a tube preamp.

The Bottlehead amp does a good job driving my Klipsch Chorus II speakers and it is a very nice headphone amp. I am thinking of putting it up on Barter Town because my new to me C2200 has a headphone jack.

Thanks for the info. I think I will get the Shanling as soon as my bank account recovers from the C2200 and a Dynaco ST70 I picked up here.

I second the vote for the SED's :thmbsp: I was looking for some NOS RCA 6L6GC's but maybe I'll try some Cryo'ed SED's as an upgrade instead. As for my small signal tubes I am running NOS RCA's.

I think I will try some in my MC40's. Although, as discussed here and in other forums, the Unity-Coupled transformer design McIntosh used really makes the choice for output tubes easy because any good quality 6L6 tube sounds good.

I went from Ruby 6L6's to RCA Black plate 6L6's and did not notice any difference in the sound of the amp.

The 12AX7 tubes are a different story. I rolled in some Sovtek 12AX7's date code 1999 in place of the Teles and heard a big difference in sound. I actually liked the sound better with the Sovteks. I know that is a sin to say in the tube world but it is what it is. :yes:
