Random Thoughts or Whatever

Truth or BS?

All Visio TVs capture a screen shot every minute, and determine what is being watched. Then ads are selected based on the TV owners profile and what they are viewing. Walmart paid Video $6.3B for exclusive use of this feature.
Google AI overview:

Many modern smart TVs, including Vizio, use Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) to capture data about what is displayed on the screen. While some reports suggest frequent, persistent "fingerprinting" or screenshots to identify content, you can disable this tracking in the settings. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Vizio Tracking Method: Vizio uses technology (often developed by Inscape) to take samples of the screen, essentially a digital fingerprint of content.
  • How to Stop It (Vizio): Go to Settings > System > Reset & Admin > Viewing Data and toggle this option OFF.
  • Scope: This ACR technology captures content from streaming apps, cable boxes, and HDMI inputs to build a profile for advertisers.
  • Other Brands: Similar tracking is found on Samsung (every minute), LG (every 15 seconds), Sony, Hisense, and TCL models, as highlighted by recent privacy lawsuits. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
Disabling the "Viewing Data" or "Smart Interactivity" setting will prevent your Vizio TV from sending this information to advertisers. [1, 2, 3]

Got a feeling (at this point) that AMAZON also makes use of "ACR"...and others as well who have admitted to this practice.

Q

I think one of our TVs has Voice Command built in to the remote. Isssume this feature was invented so that they could embed mics in the TV.

And, if there is a mic, you can bet it is listening at all times.
Our LG TV in the living room has a microphone in the remote. But you have to press the blue mic button for it to hear you.

We usually don't appreciate things that are artificial--like say, Christmas trees, or ice cream. But, for some reason, we are in love with Artificial Intelligence. Apparently, it's better than any natural intelligence. We're building Data Centers in everyone's back yard, we're going to use everyone's home computers as spare computer power, we're consuming precious water reserves just to cool the computers, we're getting rid of jobs people need, we're turning over all our social processes and government processes to this ARTIFICIAL ( means fake, right?) Intelligence! Remember how "delusional" we became with Covid?

Are we just laying groundwork for Artificial Food? Artificial Medicine? Can AI be hauled into court and punished for misdeeds?

This is too hard. Let us ask the AI for answers :)

Remember this one? "The dog ate my homework."

Now that we've committed to turning over all our available electricity in the nation to AI Data Centers, what do you suppose the official response will be to "Deadly errors made by AI"? You can't put Claude in a jail cell. When Enron-style fraud occurs, aren't the companies just going to say, "Our AI did that without our knowledge."

Random "question" of the day:

What's round, looks like a berry and is blue...but not a blueberry?

Hint:
Has to do with oxygen.

Q

I remember this guy in college had all these cute girls hanging around. And he wasn't even on any varsity team. I asked him what his secret was. He told me the one thing females look at when they check out your apartment is how clean the bathroom is.

It doesn't matter what the living room or kitchen looks like. If the bathroom looks like a typical "boy's" john, the future is prolly not bright with that female.

You reminded me of a guy who fed the gals that he when he switched to university, he was going to take brain surgeon surgery. Guess the females were looking ahead as well. And, He shared with me that his wasn't.

Q
Did that actually work? When I saw dudes try this "I'm gonna be..." tactic, it somehow reminded me of a middle-aged guy in a leisure-suit Larry outfit.
