Random Thoughts or Whatever

I just watched it last Thursday - maybe my 3rd viewing since it came out.
It is stunningly great in every respect. I did not know previously that the DI was not an actor, but a real DI, who Kubrick hired to teach the actor how to be a DI. But during the teaching, the real DI was so damn good that Kubrick hired him for the actual role. He is f*cking amazing.

Secondly, in the interim since I saw FMJ years ago, I had become a fan of Vincent D'onofiro from his role on Criminal Intent. He is spectacular in FMJ. He blew out his ACL climbing the barriers in boot camp. Finished the movie with a leg brace and still climbed the obstacles. He gained 80 pounds to do the role. Kubrick gets the best out of actors.

You think you have trained a bunch of killers---then they go to someone else's homeland and get bested by a 15 year old girl with a sniper rifle and an attitude. WOW!

Yep, the famous (or infamous, depending on your POV) Drill Instructor R. Lee Ermey.

He made quite a career from that movie...

Regards,
Gordon.

I remember 'live better through chemistry', DuPont, I think.

^^^^^^^^---that era was a full court press for corporate industrialists to cover their destructive tracks with the notion that whenever people think of "progress" it should not be HUMAN PROGRESS that comes to mind, but rather gadgets, and technologies developed by destructive and dangerous industrial giants. It worked.

So my wife decided that 100F here in ABQ just isn't hot enough for her, so she is making me take her to Phoenix AZ tomorrow for a week... Egad !

Actually were going over to visit my younger brother and take in a John Mellencamp concert on Sunday night (8/09/26). We have good seats in the center underneath the roof of the open area amphitheater ("Talking Stick Resort Amphitheater") which is nowhere near the actual resort that is on the east side of town in Scottsdale, the venue is on the west side of town in Avondale (We saw the Police there about 20 years ago).

We're then going south to Tucson to visit an Air Force buddy and tour "Old Tucson" (movie set) then head out of town and will probably stop in Tombstone for an afternoon before heading to NM to tour the wineries around Deming (they make damn good wine down there). Finally to to Las Cruces and Mesilla (home of Ricky Ricardo- "Lucy, you got some splaining to do!") before getting back to ABQ next Thursday or Friday.

^ Well we're set to break out of our 110 and above "Extreme Heat Warning" streak in the next couple of days, so maybe it'll only be 105 or so.

Sure has been continuously hot this summer. Kinda sapping the energy level.

Yeah, tell me about it, Mr. Steve !
Here, in NE. FL. we`ve had high nineties for multiple days in a row in June, & July, with several 99` sustained temperatures for multi hr. days.

Most unusually high temperatures I`ve seen this yr., as indicated on my several different carefully installed weather stations after moving into this house since 5/31/89 !

Even dropped the line voltage to as low as 116 for most of the day ~early evening, with all the millions of influx of new neighborhood`s homes that have been built in the past 10 yrs. heat pumps sucking the grid down !

Maybe a handful of badass hurricanes need to sweep through my area to help curtail the explosive unwanted growth and run off all the "imports", oh well I can only dream !

A complain about the cost of living this week. I am writing an $85 check for the high schooler yearbook. How did it become so outrageous? Mine was like $10. I hate to see his soon college textbook prices :(

For one class in college, I bought a used text from the preceding year. I found that the answers in the back alternated from odd numbered questions to even numbered each year, so I had the answers for the assigned questions in that class.

Now that's real lucky. I remember spending hours doing homework back then.

All my old girlfriends (and would-be girlfriends) are in those four books.

I’ll look at them and think, “What in the world did I see in her?” And, “I wonder what she looks like today?” Sometimes, it’s best not to go there.
