For those who remember, you hit the jackpot! The best screen possible!

The blue screen of death.

"WYSIWYG." What you see is what you get. Remember that old-school computer term?

I noticed that on this site, the dimensions you see before posting sometimes aren't exactly what you get after pressing Enter. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't

Kinda like a buffer lag.

In my dreams
That reminds me, I had this oddball dream. An old (I mean, back in my high school days) "kinda" girlfriend was driving me to baseball practice. This is someone I haven't thought about in decades.

The brakes failed in her car, but she kept driving, barely missing cars, trees, cliffs, and walls. I'm like hanging on for dear life.

Somehow we reach the field, and somehow the car stops. Dream over.

I wonder why the brain brings up forgotten people from so long ago.

Well, interesting, lets explore wondering why the relationship you had with this kinda girlfriend. Has to be a construct. My initial thought was wow, quite a gal, she kept driving which is the only thing to do... freaking out won't help. But then my initial thought is totally disconnected from the experience of knowing her. Dreams are fascinating.

Yeah. Going to the Wayback Machine. I think that we were in the same class. I really don't remember what it was. We walked to the local hamburger joint and had lunch together a couple of times.

She was cute. I have no idea what happened after that. New year, new class, new girl.

Sigh! Those were the days.

Walking to the hamburger joint a couple times isn't what I meant by relationship, real or imagined. Imagined might be rich. Something about her left a trace. Wonder what that something is, cute might be a starter. She had you scared in the passenger seat but was in control all along. Maybe this should be left unexplored... :)... or not.

Sorry.... I did drive her back and forth to school.

Nothing much juicier than that. Oh yeah, she did have super long, straight hair. Down to her butt. Oh, and the other thing — she didn't have access to a car.

I don't think anyone is really forgotten. I don't know why, but I think of "distant people" quite a lot in my pre-dream phase - those 20 minutes when I close my eyes and just "wonder about stuff at random." For about a week, I kept think of my "gang" when I was 10 to 12 years old. Pete, Marshall, Dennis and me. It was 65 years ago we were inseparable little punks making mischief in our 'hood. Also, in the summer before we moved from Denver to LA, I found my first girlfriend - and for two short weeks I was mezmerized, and then gone. A few weeks back, I tried to reconstruct every day of that mezmerization that she had me under. We were playing tag in the late twilight summer evening. I dodged under a large shrub, and there she was. A few days later, was invited to her house in the evening. Her parents steered us into a family room with a TV and then left and shut the door! Whaaaat? Gee, that was convenient for a couple of 13 year olds!

The whole "memory thing" is astounding to me.

The thing is, I haven't consciously thought about her in 25 years or more.
A few years back someone had me convinced that when you thought of someone from long ago, it meant that THEY were thinking of you at that moment.

Considering that consciousness is now believed to be a real OUTSIDE the brain, and somewhere in the universe, it was plausible, and kinda made sense in a sciency way.

I had a dream about an old HS girlfriend last month, strangely enough I found out she died the very next night from a long battle with ovarian cancer. She lived a state away and I hadn't seen her since 1978. There is some weird stuff going on in this world that I can't wrap my head around... maybe she had sent me a final goodbye?
