Rega Owner's Thread

If Sota merged with Rega....

Would it be a Reta, or a Soga?

Asking for a friend...
Of those two, I would say Soga. The "Re" in Rega was for co-founder Tony Relph and the "ga" for Roy Gandy. The partnership with Tony Relph split a long time ago, so it makes more sense to keep the letters "ga" than "Re." Actually, Sota's lower end models might already be thought of as Soga's in that they come equipped with arms made by Rega.

I wish I could still lift one of the SOTA's that I like. Such as the Sapphire, Nova, or Cosmos. I was a body builder for decades but will be 66 next month. With a complete shoulder and humerus replacements and two crushed vertebrae, it is no longer possible.

I had some bad shoulder problems a couple of years ago, and I am an orchestral violist, so I sympathize, my friend!

I am sorry to hear that. There are many simple things that I can no longer do as my right arm cannot be raised above my head. I have to ask people to help me with things which I hate to do.

I'm getting the urge to upgrade my phono stage. Considering a used Musical Surroundings Nova III. Still, Rega synergy is a thing and the Fono MM Mk III would be much less expensive. I welcome opinions!

Un-boxed my Rega Planar 2 that I bought from a local dealer used in 1983???

I have removed a Shure RXP3 cartridge that I bought when that was all I could find, and have now installed a ortofon 2M Red.

I am back on the phono bandwagon and want to upgrade this ancient almost magical device.

Any advice to upgrade or not? If not, a new P3? If yes, what would be your first step?

The Rega doesn't look that dirty in person, YIKES it needs a good cleaning

I have a Rega belt on order. :)

As to the sides, I am not sure. It's been in the box for over a decade. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am cleaning it up, and hope that helps some--hope springs eternal?

If not, does anyone have a plinth recommendation?

I've got the bug again and everyone here seems so knowledgeable

How did the sides get so worn?

Maybe she deserves a new belt? ;)

RB300 on a Mission 775S. Please note the DIY fluid damper (oil trough visible behind the arm), additional washers to get the tungsten counterweight closer to the pivot (VTF dial set to MAX), and homemade Canucklehead Puck Clamp :)

Not sure what to do with the 90s Planar 3 that I cannibalized the arm from. Put a CEC S-shaped arm on it? A Thorens TP11?

Brand new Planar 3 that came with the Exact 2 cartridge (for the same price as the currently unavailable Elys 2- so much better for me!), and I've added a few upgrades: Hudson HiFi clear acrylic matt, Groovetracer Reference Sub Platter, Groovetracer Tonearm Counterweight, and an Audio Technica Safety Raiser. The Exact cartridge has about 25 hours on it and has come into its own sounding wonderful and the L-R balance is superb.

The sub platter really helped with speed stability and the background is complete silence - not a peep. The round factory counterweight made the arm "pogo" a bit when setting it to a neutral balance state, but the Groovetracer underslung weight lets it float / hover like it should. I am extremely pleased with the look and sound of this table- it sounds better than any Redbook CD- like the music is alive !

I'm glad the Project Debut Pro table I originally bought was dead on arrival and had to be returned (at $995 it was way overpriced for what you get- shouldn't have cost more than $350-$400).

because I like to spend money and keep people employed:) ..that and I did not want a P6 since I don't trust the durability of the "foam" plinth they (and the P8, P10) use.

Apparently, for improving Regas, that’s a very wide open field!

Rega lubricant, speed stabilizer, rumble eliminator, tonearm resonance reverser, feet stabilizer, plinth glow formula, pivot bearing stiction vapor phase airlube, cartridge mount screw thread resonance slide, sub platter rotation leveler, and stylus polish!!

looks Tasty! The P3 works very well in my Mid-fi system since it is all good quality for a decent price (the whole shebang cost $15K.. the price of one snooty turntable that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference on anyway-- too many years as a Meteorologist at noisy airports)
